Maybe Apple got complaints from companies that employees were skipping work to buy their products? :D

Simple, so the News crews can cover the "massive lines" for free Apple publicity!

i won't be waiting this time for this "upgrade".

Better question why no pre orders or reserve for in store pickup

Apple wants to see lines. They saw what happened with Verizon iPhone 4 order. Failed. They want massive lines outside of their apple stores. If you pre-order, you will have to wait about 4-5 days. If you want it on day one, go wait in line.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking and said it in another thread

Same for the 1st iPad. The 3G went on sale at 5PM on a Friday.

Isn't this obvious? Last iPad come out on a Saturday morning...you know, when most people aren't at work. Releasing at 5pm on a Friday gives us stiffs with jobs to make it without fear of a sellout.
If you want to ask why it's not on a saturday again, then your making sense

I think for staffing purposes. I know the Apple store near me is mainly part time employees.

Are these going to be at best buy that day too?or just apple retail, that means I have a longer ride and a better chance of them being sold out if I have to go to my local apple store. Anyone know or should I call best buy and find out.

I'd rather just order one online and get free shipping to avoid the circus. The 2-3 days it takes for you to get it isn't going to make a difference in the long run.

The original iPhone had a 5:00PM launch, too. I think.

There is a solid reason to this, but only Apple employees know and have signed a NDA agreement not to talk about it..

Hmm.. assuming Wal-Mart receives them before launch day, then you could get one at a Supercenter at 12AM!

I was wondering about this as I work second shift mon-fri so I'll be at work when it launches... Really wanted it day one but, I'm not taking off work just to get it lol. Anyone know if the 5pm time slot is for all retailers or just apple?

I'm a little "inebriated" at the moment... What does that mean exactly?
