I have 6 in the G5, use about 2.5 on average. My windows box has 4 and I really use 2, but because of memory leaks and other windows "features" it will chew it up. My macbook has 2, and I will use all of it.

When I can afford it the macbook is going to 4 (well, 3.2 or what ever because of the chipset limitation).

what do you mean by 3.2 GB i got.......

13" White Macbook 2.1GHZ 1GB Ram 120GB HDD upgraded to.....
4GB Ram and 320GB HDD......

Both Mac Osx 10.5.6 reads all 4GB also windows 7 reads all of it (uses 30% avg.)

Its weird. Officially its max 3gb. However, the system shows 4, but it wont USE 4. No matter how many apps I have it tops out at 3gb used - just wont use the last gig. From what I understand its because the memory controller is actually 32bit and can only address the 3gb.

I have 8GB in my MacPro. My typical running apps are Firefox, Mail, FCP, DVDSP, Compressor, Mail, and Entourage, plus some misc stuff that launches and quits. That takes up about 4-5 GB when I'm rocking. I thought about adding more, but never had any paging issues, so 8 GB seems just fine for me. I'd say 6 GB would be my minimum for my workflow.

I wouldn't think so. Very expensive stuff, and Apple likely couldn't offer the next Mac Pro for a similar price as they do now.

And completely pointless. RAM is dual pumped and the CPU is quad pumped, so as long as the clock rate of the RAM is half or more the FSB of the CPU, it won't make a real difference adding to the clock rate of the RAM (ie. probaqbly 1-3% increase in speed for 50% increase in clock rate).

You're right about that but only for the first half of the revisions . Anything Penryn (like what he has) can use up to 6GB in OS X well.
