I'm in the market for a new desktop as my current one is a bit aged, but why do the latest ones still have 4 usb A ports and only two USB c/Thunderbolt ports? The Macbook have 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports.

There are quite a bit of USB-A peripherals still in use. Thunderbolt 3 can be docked to extend the number of USB-C ports.

And I think the GPU in MacBook Pro 16 only has an x8 link to CPU, the additional Thunderbolt requiring more PCi-E lanes. But not sure.
