I mentioned this on another board, and I think I'll throw it out here as well.
Honestly, if the new pro line included the ATi5830m instead of the 320/330, would anyone even be having this conversation?
Not I. Honestly, if it had been a real GPU, and the base price for the 17" had been $2499 instead of $2299, I would have been much happier, and quicker to decide to definitely buy the upgrade. As is, I'm sorta stuck with it (my old macbook is Too Old, and I'm not about to do Windows), but I'm sorta resentful instead of overjoyed.
When my current MacBook came out, I was pretty enthused. The 8600M wasn't so bad three years ago, the C2D was a decent chip... It was a good machine. The new one is a sorta semi-good machine, with the GPU being the sole obvious weak point. If it had a decent GPU, it'd be a very nice machine. If it had a quad-core chip as an option, that'd be a great machine.
