Sorry but you are making excuses for Apple. Are you telling that not using one of their most advertised features is a way to compensate their shortcomings?
An estimated 30MM Apple watches were sold in 2019. We can certainly expect more, but those numbers say more to Apple and the investors that people who buy an Apple Watch value the features, and that as long as you can get a full day out of it, it's good enough.

And I still stand by my sleep tracking statement. It's a novelty and no doctor is going to make health decisions based on it. Same with SpO2. And even ECG. Well advertised, yes, helpful maybe, but I'm sure there's plenty of other features you don't use and still value a device.

People can rationalize anything.

The battery in the Apple Watch is pretty awful. Can you work around it? Sort of, you charge it twice / day, then a couple of heavier charges each week and you'll achieve what Garmin users get by charging once / week, in my case, every 10 days.

You simply can't use this watch, in any meaningful way, and do the "charge while I'm showering bit". It's simply not good enough for that. And turning off features, well, if you hit that point, then buy something else.

Me, I'd love a larger Apple Watch with better battery life although that would mean a larger screen so some of that would be a wash.

That doesn't mean the Apple Watch is bad, per se, but stop rationalizing it's performance because it distorts the reality, subpar battery life compared to every other competitor in this space.

A Garmin watch is a competitor to Apple? Going to have to disagree with that one. I know several marathon runners with Garmin watches. Actual competitors to the Apple Watch (Android Gear?) are competitors to the Apple Watch.

My showers are pretty quick, but when most of us talk about charging while showering, it includes the - getting ready part. So 30 mins of charging a day is very doable - I've done this the last 3+ years of my Apple Watch life.

Galaxy Watch 3 - "Battery life is good enough to last for more than a day on a single charge..."

So... who here is charging it 2x a day?

Not me. Once a night, along with my iPhone. And there's usually 20-30% left on the Watch.

I am going to be upgrading from Series 3 to 6, and I hope the battery life is better because I'd like to give Sleep Tracking a chance. Goodness knows, during the pandemic even though I am working from home, and have flex hours, I am waking up more tired than I ever have been before. :/

Anyhoo, I do hope the Series 6 will last me through the day + night. I could recharge it while I am at my desk during the day time. That 1.5h quick charge gives me hope.

Do you guys also use it for sports?

I guess if you exercise in the evening then even worst and needs to charge also before.

Exercising with the watch results in a very noticeable drain especially when actively doing an "exercise" on the watch. I don't do sports but I waddle, I mean jog, for 30-45 mins every few days. I usually listen to music with my AirPods when I do this and it will drain the battery down 15-20%. This is where Garmin Watch users tell me the Garmin and AW differ so much.

Most of the time I charge once and occasionally twice.

Same, even with my every other day (at best) exercise habits.

And for some of my runs, I use a different Apple Watch if I don’t think I can charge right away or use my Suunto.

A device with far less functionality than the Apple Watch in a bigger case with a lower res screen is going to have better battery life. The Apple Watch is so deeply integrated at the OS level that no other device is going to compare. If all you want is a fitness tracker that gives you occasional notifications on your wrist, then I’m sure the Garmin is fine. Do I wish the watch had five day battery life? Of course! But I’ve looked at the competition and nothing else comes close. I charge it when I shower and charge it for about 30 minutes before bed. This onerous task of removing my watch and placing it on the charger takes a whole five seconds. Oh, I am so put upon by this Herculean labor!

For the features and size of the AW, battery life is quite good. I typically end the day with 35-45% battery life left, I typically track 2hrs of workout plus notifications etc.
I charge overnight, it’s a routine, not something that I have to check and remember.
Above battery life is on a 2 year old watch, I am happy with that. Ymmv

Exactly! Even mild workouts shank the battery life. And the GPS isn't that great, so it's really limited for even even folks like me who aren't marathoners but do work out with specific goals.

It's weird because I really don't need 10-day battery life, but Apple simply won't push the battery life enough to get me reliably to 2 days with some room to spare.

I have a 6, I always buy these things, and it'll be interesting to see how it does compared to the 4 I had. The 4 was good enough that charging didn't bother me nearly as much as the 5 did. The 5 was pretty irritating and it's not AOD that did it as I turned it off.
