No compelling use case? Um how about creating a clicks like keyboard case similar to their case for the Motorola razr. That’ll allow people to use and respond to messages while the phone is closed. When flipped open users will have the entire screen to use as whole or split screen to view 2 applications.

Sounds like Apple engineers no longer have a compelling imagination required to innovate!

If you meant feature phones, they cannot be used for two-factor authentication. If you need a phone mainly for calling and SMS, there are small minimalist phones.

I know, I know! This is the end of the world! Please Apple, give me a new mini, form factor and weight of the iPod Touch ...

I still use an iPhone Mini 12. It's more than sufficient for my needs. I have never owned a Pro phone and I genuinely do not know what it offers that I would want or need. At all. What is it about the Pro models that's compelling to you?
Maybe is was how I phrased it, but I believe the popularity of the ‘Mini’ was diminished due to a perception of being underpowered and less features, than the pro range It was placed alongside the SE and iPhone are models, which put purchasers off.
Apple purchasers are known for ‘future proofing’ or buying the best spec. Perhaps due to Apples saying marketing its line up.

Because of the limited market potential...
That iPhone sock they recently released has limited market potential, and so did that $999 stand and those $600 wheels yet they still did it.

I think a clamshell iPhone would fair better. They can also connect batteries across hinges so not sure why that limited them here. Not that I even want such a device. I’m 100% content with the OG and current monolithic slab.

Here in DE the 12 Mini was released a few months after the other iP 12's, meaning that folks jumped on the latest available, well committed to the ISP providers for the next 2 years. But also was the slogan that Apple pushed "for just another € 100" one could have a non-Mini.

You're right to call out perception. Perception is driven by a lot of factors; least of all, reality.
