Am I missing something here. I am thinking of selling my second generation apple tv before the new one comes out, so I look on ebay to see what they are going for and they are almost double what the generation threes are going for? Whats up with that, can you only jailbreak the gen 2?

They lack an exploit vector. If the Apple TV 2 was not vulnerable to the limera1n exploit, it would have never been jailbroken either.

I wish a jailbreak came out for the third gen. Movie box on my ipad works but it would be much more convenient to have it already on tv.
..I've just started using Plex server with Plexconnect hack on the ATV3 - works great and way more stable than iTunes/home sharing in my experience.
Exactly, many of those who pay twice the price want to jailbreak and run Plex. They do not seem to realize you can run Plex without jailbreaking on the APTV3

I have a ATV2 and only use Plex. I have issues with subtitles at the moment, but does ATV3 and PLexConnect offer the same ease of use that Plex does on the ATV3?
The prices for ATV2 (used) are crazy.

Never used Plex on the ATV2 so couldn't say really, nor have I used subtitles with PlexConnect.

My biggest beef with the whole thing is lack of DTS pass through but that's AppleTV's fault not Plex.
