I totally disagree. That "imagine the possiblities" commercial is one of the reasons I switched. Keifer Sutherland's voice is perfect for it.

The real reason

Apple does not spend much money on commercials is because they prefer to culturally infiltrait our brains via product placement, and pop culture. the only thing their tv commercials do is penetrate your thoughts to the words mac, and apple and to crave design, nothing else. the product placements is what gives it its hip momentem, plus the unspoken innovation, while closely following pop culture, they make the the "hot" thing in everyones minds, regardless of if they plan on buying or not. hair and the tortuse?

For what it's worth, I've had several non-techy friends ask me about the Apple/Intel commericial. I think for once, Apple at least sparked some interest with that ad. I don't think a lot of novice users really understood PowerPC (G3/G4/G5), but Intel is a brand that is more recognizable.

I keep wondering... Don't you think apple could get many more "switchers" by having commercials that actualy SHOW what macs can do? I honestly think that merely displaying expose, dashboard, and all that cool stuff would get a ton of switchers.

Why are apple ads so vague and weird? "Imagine the possibilities..."

I agree that it would attract more customers but IMO I love the ads. Although, my favorite Apple ad ever was the Jeff Goldblum iMac ads. I thought those were great

i think that Apple adverts are actually very clever, there is no product placement (the products speak for themselves) essentially they are showing a lifestyle rather than a specific product and even jaguar has adopted the same type of avdert, nothing is actually mentioned about the car not even the price..again a lifestyle, that alone will inspire people to visit the website...again very clever

Which is why both Apple's and Jaguar's market share is seriously below where it could be

In the UK, Apple's advertising is pretty much non-existent, on TV at least. Very occasionally (once evry 3 months?) I see an iPod advert. I have never seen a Mac advert, yet MS is constantly reminding us how seriously they take "security". Is Apple just not bothered?

There's only so much print advertising can do to show off features. Print adverts are much to do about brand awareness anyway nowadays. Bit of a trend in general. But yes... Apple could try a lot harder. Maybe they've done the research to show that extra advertising does not translate into much higher sales.

I agree that in general Apple ads are lame, but with some exceptions, like that iMac G4 ad where the guy is walking by a store window and he sees the iMac.

But a few Dashboard ads wouldn't hurt, I've seen them in magazines. That ripple effect would kill.
