It's always the same. If I want an ASUS... I'll buy one, if I want a Mac I'll pay whatever I have to. Turns out people here want Macs and, quite frankly, don't care what you have to say about your ASUS.

Apple prefers to milk the customer for all its worth. Walk into a retail store and ask the customer if they are aware of an impending Macbook Pro update. The answer will tell you why Apple does not "chop" prices.

For that, I despise apple for their business tactics. Lets not get into that though.. it's too OT :p

Apples have to develop their own OS and such and the market share is a lot smaller than windows. They also spend a lot on R&D not only on their OS but obviously on their hardware.

Convenient repair options

The AppleCare Protection Plan ensures that Apple-authorized technicians will perform repairs using genuine Apple parts(2). With this plan, parts and labor will be covered for three years from your computer’s purchase date. The plan includes onsite service for desktop computers and global repair coverage, which can be very important if you travel abroad.

I understand onsite as come home and repair! Was i wrong? I should admit it was a guess from that line!

Really don't care if an Apple costs more than an same spec PC.

Reason I'm happy to pay that little extra.

1. the OS is much better. Not only how it looks and feels, but it's stable.
2. Style, Macs look so much better than PCs and my MBP is not covered in manufacture labels (ATi Intel Windows etc)
3. It's one stop shop! should I have an issue with my MBP I just go to the Apple store or Apple site, don't have to go to Microsoft or ATi or this company or that company.

just some of the reasons I prefer Macs to PCs

I think on-site refers to in store, as opposed to sending them back to Apple. I could be wrong though.

Instead of defending Apple this whole time, if someone could've just said "The MBP hasn't been updated and no price cut because people keep buying it", this thread would have ended 50 posts ago.

You are the one who ask for an intelligent discussion, you can't knock people for answering your question.

Besides adding the obligatory "pffft" to the title of this thread, I would add the blindingly obvious statements that Macs are more expensive than cheap PC's, but they are only slightly more expensive than comparable PC's and cheaper than the very best PCs.

In terms of the spec on offer, the premium you pay - and it is a fairly small one in the overall scheme of things - is for the visual design, which I believe Apple does better than anyone else. The relative quality of the hardware is something separate of course. Apple ranks along with my shoelaces in that respect.

Now... what if I throw this in? (I originally decided to leave this out because I figured the MBP vs. Asus was good already) This is from the Canadian BestBuy boxing day flyer...

Before you start saying how it's a refurbished PC, I'm looking at the PC on the RIGHT HAND SIDE. It has a Quad Core processor at 2.4Ghz while the iMac has a Core 2 Duo at 2.0Ghz... The mac has a slightly bigger HD, and a better (I think? not going to bother checking, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt) gfx card.... at the cost of $500!
Well, there you have it. I look at it and wonder how anyone could buy the PCs. The iMac is a work of art compared to those HPs, consumes less power, and is silent.

It's impossible to buy a computer today that's too slow unless you're into gaming, in which case Apple can't compete with some custom-built fugly desktop, or you're into high-end graphical work, in which case you're likely going to buy Apple (or Sony at a similar price) because ugly just doesn't cut it for you.

Arguments about speed and capacity used to matter. Anymore, all systems are good enough. Now it comes down to OS, bundled software, and aesthetics. People who buy Apple pay for what they see outside the screen as well as what they see on the screen. People who buy PCs tend to buy because they're cheaper, not because they're better. Unless they're buying the attractive PCs (like Sony).

Edit: erp... started writing long ago, just posted.
