PCs are "snappier" because there isn't a whole lot of graphical splendor to draw and constantly re-draw on a PC. If you set a static monochrome background, and turn off almost all gui effects, then OSX runs pretty fast. Also be sure to check your scrolling/display setting in your browser as well as for your keyboard/mouse. I noticed it too when I first booted up my Mac but it runs very quickly now.

If anything, it's because the lowest-end CD and an Intel GMA ain't exactly afterburner'd performance for the eye candy that OS X has. For essentially single-tasking applications Yonah isn't leading edge either: A superannuated Opteron from last year can blow it away. The real benefits from CD come when you're working the way OS X does very well - multi level multitasking. I have no issues with OS X at all in terms of UI response compared to truly like-for-like Windows machines.

I guess you've never seen a window struggling to redraw itself in Windows. (Athlon XP 2600+, 1.5 GB of RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro and on my iMac Core Duo.) That's even after turning off all of the effects in Windows XP.

You DO NOT want to run the Mac mini or MacBook on 512 MB. It's suicide just to multitask and run the GMA950.

So you think I should blame it on the GMA950? My Mini is just as fast as my friends MBP 2.0GHZ, after upgrades. I may be mistaken or inaccurate, but it seems this eye candy could be boosted if I placed a Merom in there. No?
