Here's just an opinion. I wanted to see where people stand with this.

Apple has disabled 3D touch in watch os 7 and replaced it with a long press which does the same thing but it doesn't feel the same, just like they did on the iPhone X or XS (can't remember which exactly) bottom line is that they are now going to disable a function that every watch since day one had, just so that owners of the upcoming watch won't complain. Im just surprised and curious as to why people don't seem to have an issue with a removal of such useful feature? What do you guys think

Stick with os6, I really don't see any reason to upgrade if you like force touch. I think I can manage to wash my hands properly, I also think promoting a dance option for activities as a cool new feature is pretty lame tbh. Also, other apps do sleep tracking way better. No brainer really. They might be saving lots of new features for the Series 6 though so...

I thought they were getting rid of 3D / long press entirely in watchOS 7, and replacing it with a "..." button in the UI where it makes sense? Where is long press still available?

That’s what I was going to do after trying out the beta version on my test watch. I just wasn’t happy with it at all however it won’t work long term because I still have two accidental damage claims left with Apple care. And when I use it In the future I’ll be given a watch that has the watch os 7 on it so it’s a loose-loose situation

I know this wasn’t really advertised but animations have been sped up quite a bit. Performance and battery life seem to be the same for me as it was on OS 6, surprisingly, even with a beta.

The settings where 3D Touch is necessary, like changing watch faces or changing the weather app view they changed the 3D Touch function to a long press way. In other ways, like clearing all notifications from the list they’ve added a separate button to perform the action. It’s a mess

Apple giving up on 3D Touch is one of the most disappointing iOS related Apple stories ever. It honestly just sucks. 3D Touch is far superior to "Force Touch," (AKA long press with a better name, ugh) but Apple just. Doesn't. Care.

As to why "no one cares," I think a lot us do care but after seeing it deprecated and crippled in iOS 13, it wasn't exactly a surprise that sooner or later the watch would get the same treatment.

3D Touch (When it did exist on the iPhone) versus Force touch on the Apple Watch was virtually the same thing. You have to push the display to invoke certain actions/shortcuts navigate the U.I.. What you’re comparing with ‘long press’ has a delay, but executed similar actions slightly different.

3D Touch/Force touch were confusing features for most consumers, because they didn’t know what it even did in the first place. Most people had no idea force touch on the Apple Watch was even A relevant feature, Apple really didn’t market it and it can be easily overlooked.

This!

Although I’ve always been curious why Apple didn’t promote it more since it was a 3rd paradigm of touch based navigation.

The best use of this feature IMHO, is to clear all notifications. If they provide some other way to do that, I won't mind, but otherwise, I feel it's a beneficial feature.

For me, I didn't really take advantage of 3D touch as much so I don't really miss it or notice the difference. I went from Iphone x to Iphone 11 Pro. Didn't really phase me. As for the OP's watch 3d Touch. I have series 5 and I can't imagine it'll affect me the same way as I mentioned about the phones I didn't feel much difference.

I like 3D Touch. At the same time, I don’t have a problem with using the long press. I also believe Apple is making room for more sensors for the pulse ox ability, and possibly a slightly bigger battery.

but it's not the same treatment because I can still use 3D Touch my iPhone 7 using iOS 13. With watchOS 7, they're using software to disable hardware that exists on watches we currently own. They didn't do that with iOS.

I immediately missed Forcetouch. With new apps. Whenever I didnt know what to do, I just pressed hard for the hidden menu. And it often worked. Now it’s gone😟

I just listened to the last episode of the podcast “Mac Power Users” about the watch. If you don’t know David Sparks, one of the hosts, he has been running this podcast for multiple years where he talks about Mac power user things every week. And he’s had the watch since day one. And he didn’t know that you could switch between cars view and list view in the calendar app with force touch.
From a user perspective, it’s ridiculously stu pid to hide essential features behind a magic hidden button.
I applaud Apple for pushing watchOS 7 to have separate buttons instead of just hiding everything behind a magical hidden button. For developers, they can decide if they should follow Apple and have accessible features, or if they want to hide features behind long press. Regardless, it’s a win for consumers (even if 100 MR professionals will miss force touch).

I look at 3D Touch/force touch very much like ‘Live photos‘. Really amazing features that have unique capabilities, but totally forgotten by the average consumer base that doesn’t Delve into the core iOS/watchOS.

but I also see the other side of this, even if Apple marketed 3D Touch/Force touch, it’s probably still confusing enough for consumers that they wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway. I hate to say it, but when you look at a ‘smart phone or smart watch‘ in general, generally Average-every-day consumers are kind of ‘dumbed-down’ where they don’t pick up on a little of things. If it confuses them, they don’t make any attempt to figure out how it works.

I’m far from impressed about its removal to be honest

For me, removing it in future devices so they can use the space for other things would be acceptable

However, removing support for a hardware feature that exists on my watch is altogether more annoying and frustrating.

Having said that, there’s nothing any of us can do about it so complaining won’t do any good

As for me, I will like the loss of force touch. I change my band often and end up pressing the face when attempting to press the little lock button for the band. I end up launching apps that I don't intend to. So I will probably buy a watch 6 if it doesn't have the extra layer in the face just to get rid of that annoying issue.

I’m not happy about it but the average person probably doesn’t even know it exists. I’m sure Apple has data to back it up too.

Just to make this clear - I'm not complaining about future watches not having the hardware needed for 3D Touch, my point is that It's unfair for Apple to turn the hardware off in watches that have had the hardware and made use of it for 5 years. I don't understand how can some say that It's OK to turn it off because ''I've never used it anyway''. It's like me saying ''oh well I've never used the flash on the phone so therefore Apple should just turn it off on phones that have the flash hardware'' 🤷‍♂️

This. Even if the Series 6 has tech that cannot accommodate force touch, turning off perfectly usable existing hardware is dumb.
