According to Wikipedia, 55 million XBoxes were sold up to June 2011. There have been about 28 million iPads sold up to June 2011, that is just in 15 months, with numbers still growing, so in another 15 months I think iPads will have outsold XBox. Kinect sales have been 8 million in the first 60 days (November/December 2010) but only 10 million up to March 2011, and since then sales seem to have slowed down to a crawl. We'll see what the numbers are by the end of the year, but Kinect seems to meet the definition of "fad".

Very aware, thank you for proving my point. I was saying it's much cheaper than the $500 iPad. Affordability has a lot to do with sale.

Me personally, Apple fanism aside, I'd rather an iPad. FAR more capable.

Kids like expensive things and are gullible. Apple has excellent marketing. It's only logical that they would want the most expensive toy in the shop.

Things like MBP's are a perfect example. You can get a laptop with far greater specs for less money but it's not "cool". At uni, I see almost everyone using a MBP (different age group - same trend)

Now all those DOS users are using Win7 but using iPhones ... They don't seem to think they have any relation to Macs ... Goddam their stupidity.

Or we use Windows 7 because it works best for our needs but like the features the iPhone offers. I don't think there's are many iPhone users out there that don't know Apple makes Macs and iPhones.

I think fad is not the right word. Apple was successful in creating a coolness with their products. That definitely aided to establish the iPod and iPhone as top notch devices.

They are both excellent devices and what put Apple on the map starting in the 2000's. The iPhone and then the iPad are what created Apple mania in recent years, IMHO. The iPod was the beginning.
