Why are some menu bar icons larger than others?

Lately I've noticed a few app icons on MacOS are larger for no apparent reason. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

You're asking about dock icons or the menu bar? Your screenshot looks more like the dock. What are some of the apps that have these larger icons?

Yes, the Dock. Any.do is current culprit.

Because the developers of that app made their icon bigger, the apps icons on macOS are not cut automatically into a square with rounded corner like on iOS. You can paste a custom icon on that app, or ask its developer to fix their icon.

Fix it? Is anything not working as a result? I guess Genie Effect would render your Dock unusable!
