Unfortunately the next SE4 won’t have home button and the screen will probably be 6.1”...
Well back to the 16 then I guess. Woot had (has) a sale on "like new" SE3s and I dug further into the Apple Store--about the only real benefit over my iPhone8 is the processor, which thus allows me to run iOS17, which AFAICT has all manner of obscure geegaws I have no interest to learn. Not even the cam is better.

Okay, it seems i am no longer holding out for 16: bit the bullet and exchanged 14PM to 15 Pro white couple days ago. The best decision ever: now feel content to skip or observe what 16 brings to the table.

On a good note, if 16 Pro is bigger than 15 Pro, then I have a somewhat relict small iphone closes to 13 mini.

Keeping my 13. Other then the notch being gone think it's all the same with minor upgrades.

I have a 13 Pro Max and haven't seen any compelling reason to upgrade (yet). But if the rumors are true and the 16PM has a larger screen (largest screen ever for an iPhone), then I'd be tempted! My 56 yr old eyes need as much screen real estate as possible!

My iPhone 14 still holds up relatively well, but here are some reasons I want to upgrade

1. The iPhone 14 is painful to hold without a case

2. The iPhone 16 is likely going to have a more attractive front design (like the 15 does)

3. The iPhone 14 is not going to get any new AI features like newer models

I will upgrade for the bigger screen and better camera!
I don't "need" to upgrade my phone it is still doing what I want it to do but I've been looking for a telephoto zoom for a while and with the rumored capture button coming to the 16, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a very nice camera.
Also I started watching a lot more youtube on my phone now that I spend a lot of times in the subway, I will definitely enjoy the bigger screen haha.

I am forced to update my 12 pro max to a 16 pro max given the screen is ghosting & screen repairs are very costly.

I am looking forward to the larger display & wifi 7. My next update may be shorter, as i am holding out for the punch hole design.
I am re quoting myself and have decided a while back to pass on the 16 pro max, as it has too little to offer.

Currently on 13, came from 11 Pro. Will go for a 16 Pro next. Why? Camera, AI, USB-C.

14 to 16 due to Apple Card 24 month payoff with 0% interest.

The 16 Pro is probably going to underwhelm, yet still set gazillions. In part because of all the 17 series rumours saying how much better that phone will be. If the 16Pro doesn’t get a memory boost for example , then it will be somewhat constrained for future AI models just like the 14 series is unable to run the models of today due to limited memory. Apple really dropped the ball with memory in the last few years. Tight & greed spring to mind.
The rumoured camera upgrades are ok, but why hold back the features ? (Apple is saving them for 17). Phones cost such a lot of money nowadays. Hard to justify. All that being said, I’m on the fence. My 13 Pro serves me well and an upgrade is tempting.

But probably only to the pro max version so it feels like I actually get something for it. Otherwise I will wait and see what Pixel/Galaxy options are available in the new year and then make a decision. A discounted 15 Pro Max is an option , but again gimped with low memory. These phones will struggle to run AI models locally in 3yrs. Not enough ram.

Agree.

Love my 14+ but I need an AOD 16PM due to the gimped WiFi and NFC features I need for my EV.

Also, the SOS Emergency feature is probably going to be charged monthly on the 14 so I guess I'll get the 16PM.

And the final reason would be the 24 month 0% AC financing.

I still have my iPhone 14 ProMax, and honestly the more rumors I hear, the less I want the 16 PM. AI was the biggest draw, but I dont think it's that compelling, so I could wait another year. My 14 PM still runs well, and I am running the iOS 18 beta with little issues. Another big reason that may seem dumb to some is the fact that Apple got rid of the leather case. It was the only case I ever used on my iPhone since they were released way back on the iPhone 5 or 5s. It wasnt perfect, and the newer ones weren't the best at aging, but they worked perfectly for me. I have done some searching, and I can't find anything like it. We will see what this year brings with cases, but that is a legit concern for me. Not really interested in going phone case shopping again.

Damn you will not upgrade ever again your phone because.. you don’t want to go case shopping?

And here I am not even using case haha

The iPhone will sell for one simple reason.

There are currently over a billion active iPhone users. If even just 1 out of every 4 of them upgrade simply because it’s time to replace their current device, you are looking at sales of 250 million iPhones already.

This is why I am not really worried about news of lengthening iPhone upgrade cycles, or what specs it has, or how much ram it comes with. When it’s time, it’s time.

I bypassed the 15 Pro Max and will also most likely bypass the 16 Pro Max and wait for the 17 Pro Max.

My 14 Pro Max is fine and Apple intelligence seems like a bit of a gimmick and will still be in beta when the 16 comes out. So I’m not spending £1000+ to beta test something I doubt I will use.

Everything else doesn’t offer much of an upgrade over the 14 Pro Max in real world usage.

I have the 14 Pro and was previously thinking of upgrading. However as we get closer to the release of the new phones, I'm getting more and more hesitant to do so. I would get a lighter phone with the titanium and surely the thinner edges would be great, but.. perhaps there are more substantial changes ahead with the 17 models. Especially the "slim" model has gotten me interested.

I think I'll go another year with the 14 Pro.

Oh no, I didn’t say I would never upgrade again. Clearly I can’t do that, but at this point it’s not a necessity. So smaller things like a case become an important option to consider for me. And I went case shopping a year ago trying to decide if I wanted the 15pm, and could not find a case. That’s why I say again.

Agree.

I have a 14+ and even though it's been perfect since day 1 with the best battery life (compared to my 14PM), I will be upgrading the 14+ to 16PM for:

  • Always on display
  • WiFi connections automatic switchover
  • SOS emergency feature
  • AI

I’ll buy the 16 pro max because of the camera, if it’s good enough compared to the 15 pro max that I have. When the 15 pro max came out, the camera quality was 2.5x better than the 14 pro max especially with night mode. The 16 pro max is rumored to have a new Sony sensor that is slightly larger than the sensor in the 15 pro max, which is already big 1/2” diagonal and supposed to be 2x better than the 15PM. So if night mode and optics are better than the 15 pro max, then I’ll definitely get one or two of them. The ultra wide is rumored to have a 48mp this year.

That’s where I am. I want to have the best camera possible so I’ve started upgrading yearly.

Wow you have a job that requires the best camera possible?
Nope, just a hobby I enjoy. Skateboarding videos, my kids, and my cats. If it was a job I’m sure I’d have an actual camera. I upgrade through T-Mobile and the new phone installment plan just replaces the old one, so my bill doesn’t increase.
