Why aren't my email alerts just under the day/date!

Instead, they are smack dab in the middle of the lock screen. I want them like the pic below. How do I get this?

If its your only notification, no matter what it is, it's going smack dab in the middle. Only when you have multiple notifications since you last unlocked your phone will it show up like that picture.
