It was fun to take a look back and remember what phones I used to have!
Who knows when - Dec 2013: iPhone 4S
Dec 2013 - Jan 2015: iPhone 5 (~2 years)
Jan 2015 - Dec 2016: iPhone 6 (~2 years)
Dec 2016 - Dec 2018: iPhone 7 Plus (~2 years)
Dec 2018 - July 2022: iPhone XS Max (~3.5 years)
July 2022 - current: iPhone 13 Pro (4 years and counting, no plans to upgrade in the near future)
It looks like I used to trade my phone in almost like clockwork. I'm guessing my carrier would tell me I was "eligible for an upgrade" and I'd go in and get my new phone. Don't think I could go back to having a large phone like the 7 Plus or XS Max... I have small hands and the 13 Pro is much more comfortable to use.
Starting in 2018, I began to trend toward keeping my phone longer. It was around that time that I began to really consider technology lifecycles and the amount of e-waste that exists because of our society's buying habits, which is a whole different, nuanced topic of conversation. 😄 (*In 2020, Joscha Bach said, "We are the first species with industrial society, because we will leave more phones than bones in the stratosphere" during Episode 101 of the Lex Friedman podcast... that phrase sticks with me.)
Cool beans! My current primary iPhone is the 11 Pro Max 512GB, purchased in April of 2021. Love this thing. However, my kids have the 17 Pro Max and 2 17 Pros...lol. Kids are young adults, but my babies forever. 😎
