I want you to sell me a HomePod and give me then reasons why its superior to my boombox as perhaps I could use one. I will tell you what I do.

1) Mostly listen to radio talk shows, sermons, and the like. I also listen to podcasts which my boombox can stream since it has Bluetooth.
2) Listen to sermon CD's
3) When its baseball season I will follow my team every game which sometimes requires me to listen via audio. I use the MLB app since my team is not local in my area.
4) Hardly ever listen to music.

Can the HomePod help me or am I better off with my Sony BoomBox which has BT, a USB port, and the like? Don't want to fork out $400 if I don't need too. Or perhaps a HomePod would be a strong advantage to my situation I don't know.

You should definitely not buy a HomePod. It's for those a) with Apple AirPlay compatible devices and b) with Apple Music subscriptions.

Unless you are comfortable with using your iPod or MacBook as the master and the HomePod as the slave, I would stick with Bluetooth. And since you listen mostly to spoken word content and not music, the HomePod's superior sound wouldn't be recognized or appreciated. You'd spend a lot of money needlessly.

Thank you for your honest feedback. I will stick with my Boombox.

If Apple Music isn’t a big thing for you then the HomePod won’t be either.

For many I recommend Sonos w/Google or Alexa. Also airplay 2. Can add more components to make 5.1 system. New sound bar (arc) and sub release in June for Dolby atmos. Already preordered.

NO I do not have Apple Music or any music service.

I just bought one from BB for $199. I read where the new pod will be lower priced, however, only 2 tweeters vs the current 7. Anyway the sale price was too good.

I agree that the Homepod's best feature is sound quality. Not listening to music on it is a waste.
I disagree that you need Apple Music. I listen to my own music library on my pair easily. Sounds great.

Yeah I hardly ever listen to music and definitely do not need a music subscription service.

The boombox is a dumb speaker. The HomePod is a smart speaker. If you're not into home automation and other smart stuff, then it's a waste of money.

I got several of them and am just waiting for the HomePod mini and HomePod 2.0 (if we can believe the rumors) the expand the experience. I love asking Siri to do stuff for me whereever I am. "Hey Siri, play music in the living room", "hey Siri, turn on the lights in the bedroom", "Hey Siri, what's the weather going to be like tomorrow", etc, etc, etc...

I don't have apple music and hardly ever listen to music. The boombox has Bluetooth, a CD player, USB port, and the like since most of what I listen too is spoken word content.
