Thank you for opening my thread.

Ive had the iphone since 2007, and I now currently have the Iphone6+.

I have a late model 08 MBP running the latest version of Itunes and Mavericks.

For YEARS I have been making my own ringtones in Itunes, YEARS.

But it NO LONGER works. Ive spent COUNTLESS hours trying to fiqure it out.

Any intel about what has changed?

is it a bug in ITunes?

find the song you want to make the ringtone out of.

    right click, get info, options

choose the length i.e. start - stop points

    choose OK

should create a new clip the length you want

    right click

    show in finder

    right click

    info

alter the name of the file to m4r

    back to iTunes

delete the clip but don't move to bin, only remove from iTunes

    back to finder

double click the clip you re named m4r

it will open in iTunes and you will also see it disappear from finder. Its moved to tones folder.

    there you go.

You may rename the old file back to m4a

I forget exactly but these steps should get you where you need to be and you can work out any wrong info but I don't think there is.

Sorry its such a long pain in the ass. Blame apple.

edit - oh you may need to reset the start - stop points on the original song.

Basically if you do a google search on the issue, Ive pretty much done every so called "fix" out there for it.

am convinced there is some sort of bug in the latest Itunes. Or maybe Apple doesn't want us making our own ringtones anymore.

    nice!!

was it an track purchased from the Itunes store or non itunes store?

    ----------

the closest I can get is to import the ringtone into Itunes, but its greyed out. And in get info/options it doesnt keep the start/stop time checked. Then the ringtone just dissapears. So basically its a ghost. And this is purchased and non purchased tracks converted to ringtones.

Thank you for your reply Zxxv,

however what you posted I have been doing sucessfully for over 5 years.

Im thinking the problem is that the latest Itunes is not taking well my Mavericks. And if I upgrade to Yosemite, it will turn my 2008 MBP into a brick

I thought like you I just right click a song. Choose make ringtone and away I go following the instructions. Pretty crap if you ask me. I'm on Yosemite.
