Teased us with iPhone 2G and never again. Would be nice to wipe dust off the phone especially cased phones that can easily gather dust and other annoyances in the crevaces of the device. They could throw it in with the paperwork that's never been read by a single iPhone user since mid-late 2007.

Just a thought.

Lol. I actually just use the massive cloth that came with my 1000 mile boots but would appreciate something a bit smaller.

Your car dealer could throw in a detailing kit with each vehicle.
Your shoe store could throw in a shoeshine kit with each pair of dress shoes.
Your jeweler could throw in a polishing kit with each gold ring.
Your home builder could throw in a pressure washer with your house.

They could.... But they don't. Why wonder why?

Iphone 2G also came with a dock as far as i can remember. Now its sold for a hefty price. Much bigger deal for me than a 10c cleaning cloth available everywhere.

Almost forgot about that dock. Guess we really get gypped these days. The cleaning cloth would cost, what, a few cents each to manufacture? Who wouldn't prefer a cloth over the apple stickers that no one uses or cares about.

Actually,
My last car did come with a detailing kit.
My last pair of shoes came with polish.
My only ring is an heirloom.
My housebuilder died about 400 years ago.

Just saying.....

ahh the good ole days! i think i still have that cleaning cloth somewhere.

because every penny counts to the bottom line and the astronomical salaries of the company executives. That and the fact that you would just look silly walking around with a little rag that you pull out every so often to wipe your phone down :D

You know how many cleaning clothes I end up getting? I literally have a pile full in my desk drawer from every time I buy a screen protector. I'll send you one if you are that worried.

Because 99.9% of people toss them in the trash and they know this.

I assume that 99.999% of people toss the stickers in the trash but Apple still includes those. I'd rather have neither but if I had to choose one then I choose a microfiber cloth. The black microfiber cloth that comes with the iMac is really good.

Don't forget the old iPods and iPod Nanos came with microfiber sleeves.

In the automotive world, I've heard this called "de-contenting". It's the process of slight removal of features over the life of a car in order to eke more profit out of it.

They get initial buyers because all these awesome bells and whistles are part of the base price. After a year or two, those heated side mirrors? Now they're a $150 option ($$ are example only). Another 2 years later? Now you have to get touring package to get heated side mirrors...

The original iPods came with tons of goodies, my 60GB iPod photo needed a massive box to fit them all in.
Inside the box you’ll find everything typically packed with a new iPod—FireWire and USB 2.0 cables, a power adapter, Apple’s white earbuds with two sets of foam covers, and a CD that includes Mac and Windows versions of iTunes 4.7 and the latest iPod software updater. Also tucked inside are a few extra items—an iPod Carrying Case, a 5-foot A/V cable for connecting the iPod to a television, and a special dock that includes not only the usual data/power connector and audio out port, but an S-video port for projecting higher-quality video to a television when the iPod is placed in the dock. (An S-video cable is not included.)

I read a story in a book on marketing once - I can't recall the exact details, but a certain car (I think it was a Ford) with every conceivable feature just wasn't settling. They removed half the features, called it a "Limited Edition", jacked up the price, and sold them like hotcakes.

You can get a microfiber cloth at the dollar store, I don't think it's a big deal that they don't include one.

I keep one in the glovebox of my car, one in my desk drawer, and one in the sofa cushions. I wear glasses too so I'm constantly cleaning those along with my iPhone so it's good to have a cloth nearby.
