Its amazing how quickly "It just works" changes into "learn how to do it yourself"

What he is trying to do doesn't "just work." There are plenty of suggestions for him throughout the thread. We can't hold his hand and do everything for him. He needs to take those suggestions and do some research to find out what is gonna work best to solve his issue.

Look at an app called Readdledocs it's going to require wifi but it works perfectly for stuff like this.

Unfortunately, in their quest to make things simpler Apple decided against giving users a file system. Your case is just one of the examples where this "simplicity" turns into real pain. Microsoft chose similar path for WP7. Android is the "good guy" here. And it may get eve better with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich next week. This version is expected to support USB host mode which can be used for connecting peripheral devices (like printers, hard drives etc.) to the phone. Unfortunately, for now in terms of USB iOS device stay "slaves" - literally and figuratively.

Android is always an option, yes. The Android community gloats about their "freedom" as being a huge advantage over iOS -- it's worth investigating if iOS feels too restrictive.

That said, if there's a particular use for a device that is going to make or break the end-user's desire to actually keep that device, it's within reason and common sense for that end-user to actually research that device to see if it meets his usage requirement before investing in it. Being an informed consumer can save these growing pains in the long run.

Just use icloud, drop pictures in photo stream and they will be on your iphone or computers

clearly this is not a technical issue, if Apple wanted they could of course allow access to their hard drives (if I buy their phone, is it still "their" hard drive or should it be "my hard drive" instead?)

this is clearly not due to technical considerations but else this all happens because of Apple POLICY, and Dallious has precisely hit the nail on the head when suggesting:
"just use icloud" <--this is what Apple wants!

Please be aware that when we upload all our personal files to the iCloud, then Apple and others gain access to scan, study and label our information... else, if we were able to easily copy/paste (as people do when using a Samsung) then chances are not many people would bother in uploading their stuff to the watchCloud...

First, why post in a 4+ year old thread?
Second, you're suggesting Google, an advertising company, is better for privacy than Apple. Yeah, right.

hi, thanks for asking :)

1) why post in a 4+ year old thread?
answer: because I want to (any problem?), and because I had the exact same problem...

2) you would seem to acknowledge that both Google and Apple have serious privacy isues, which is precisely my point herein, thanks for understanding (that part at least) !!!

but no, I never said that Google is "better" at privacy than Apple (did you read that anywhere in my post?), what I did say is that Samsung users reportedly do have access to copy/paste into their hard disk.

____

anyway, now that you mention it, there seems indeed to be a difference, not between the two companies which you mentioned, but amongst their operating systems instead:
iOs is a "closed-in-the-box" 100% proprietary software, while instead Android's source code is released by Google under open source licenses...

____

having said this, I have no further intention of dedicating more time to this thread, if you like you may go ahead and misinterpret my words again, or even put words in my mouth if you will, honestly I will not care...

enjoy your iCloud !!!
