Why can't I download things at school?

    To be more specific, when I try to use transmission in between classes, or even connect to ichat, it just wont happen. Same with online games and steam. AIM works though, and I can use the internet.

    Do I need to bypass something?

    Maybe your school blocks those ports, as they can be misused.

    your internet connection goes through a proxy server which does all the funky filtering and is implemented for good reasons. ;)

    Bummer, this only happens at the community college, at the University everything works.

    Actually torrenting is blocked at most universities. I don't see why iChat and gaming is blocked though.
