Why can't there be a Backup App that does it all?

Title pretty much says it. Why can't there be a Backup App that does it all?

I know there are a couple for ITunes Store Apps (including iTunes) that back Apple iTunes Store Apps and there are a couple on Cydia (PKGBackup) that backup 3rd Party Apps on Cydia but why is there not an "App" that does it all, or is there one?

I would like to find something that did an "image" backup (similar to Norton Ghost) of the iPhone so if I ever had to do a complete restore it wouldn't be like putting a puzzle back together. One click of a button and a Backup or Restore.

Is there or will there ever be such a thing?

That's a great idea! I'd love to see exactly what you've described.

Why do you need an app to reinstall App Store apps. Just re-sync and the App Store puts them all back in one operation.

I guess I didn't make my point very well. I would like to have ONE app that reinstalls EVERYTHING the way it was on my iPhone at the point of the backup. An image Backup and Restore similar to Norton Ghost.

Right now if I need to do a Restore, I'm doing EXACTLY like you are saying. I re-sync with iTunes for my Apple Apps, restore my Contacts and re-install my Cydia apps.

I'm not quite sure what you meant by "Just re-sync and the App Store puts them all back in one operation." Your suggestion puts "all" my App Store apps back but that's it. I still have to perform additional operations.

I'm just saying, it would be nice...

    Happy Holidays...

...That would be very nice! I recently dud a clean install of Snow Leopard and in the process I forgot that ai had backed up my apps so it took me ages to reconfigure things and still I come across things that I want to do on my iPhone and realize that I forgot an App. Also my contact have never been the same and still aren't; duplicates, triplicates and then some missing their contact numbers... It's a mess. Any way I would just like to add my support... It would be very nice... Merry Christmas.

What doesnt violate Apples TOS :D
I'd buy it if it was availabe at the cydia store.
A one click sync/restore every single thing type of app.

Because one update to the firmware would render the update absolutely useless.

If you really want to back it up yourself, it's quite simple. SSH and transfer everything over.

True, with every update they'd have to rewrite the whole thing again.

How is the one step restore process of all JB apps from the Rock sign in? Haven't had a chance to test it yet but seemed like a good idea that gets as close as we'll likely see.

What I meant was what I typed

Then, as you mentioned, I use PkgBackup to re-install all my Cydia apps in one operation And other than a few sound mods, I am done.

Honestly, I fail to see what else is really needed.

Perhaps you should repost over on that official Apple forum and ask there again for some Jailbroken app to do this. :p

Some kind of Time Machine for iPhone would be nice, it takes me 2 hours after restore to get everything back the way it was (Lockinfo, iblacklist etc..)

    strike1555,

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try.

    dhlizard,

Not only do you have a good memory but a pretty good sense of humor. :p

For those of you who don't know or remember, I had a momentary lapse of "forum decorum" over at the official Apple forum and then followed it up here with a mild case of paranoia. I have since made a full recovery thanks to the kind people here.

I'm still learning everyday and appreciate everyone's patience and help...

    Happy Holidays!

Like dhlizard, I can't see what possible reason there would be for duplicating functionality from iTunes in a jailbreak utility. You're going to want to sync up anyway, so you wouldn't really be saving any steps.
