The difference is Costco really doesn’t function like most other businesses. They buy the product at the best price they can get, and then add 10-15% to the price and theres your costco price. The membership is their profit center, not the store. The store stock is priced to run the stores. They can and do have massive buying power, and are an extremely powerful entity from a retail sales perspective.
I've got a slightly different perspective. I have been a member for years here in the UK. It's a members' club and most people obviously do not shop there. For electricals, it is always going to play tenth or twentieth fiddle to the electrical chains, Apple and certainly Amazon. Its saving grace is the long store guarantee. As far as IT prices go, even with its thin margins and discounted prices, I found better deals quite easily. I haven't seen the exodus from the branches laden with TVs and computers that you describe. In fact, that area in the front of the store tends to get neglected as people head towards clothes and food. Maybe it is different in your branch but I have noticed bits and pieces missing from the store display at times, which does not suggest abundant stock. Obviously we are all speculating here but I haven't seen anything to convince me that Costco is ordering any more than it can normally sell.

Where Costco excels in the United States is the 5 year warranty that’s included with the purchase, along with the 2% back in executive member rewards, and 2% back on the credit card.

Additionally you have just under 3 months to return it in case something goes wrong.
