Why did Apple launch the new AW with so little stock?

Seems like a lot of stores got no stock and Best Buy and Target got little to no watches in. Why launch now with no product available? It's not like waiting a month until there was enough to meet the launch need would kill holiday sales or anything. Instead you have a bunch of annoyed customers in what is shaping up to be yet another botched product launch.

Apple has not confirmed anything as to why. When the first Gen Watch launched, this was a very similar occurrence. My guess is the stock will be caught up in the next month.
