I understand pricing the X at $999, but why the price increase on the 8? I'm now considering the 7 instead

Thats what they do,

just a little more every year or couple years ,they figure it wont be a dealbreaker for anyone already shelling out

The increase for the X would have looked even more incredible if they hadn't bumped the 8.

£1149 for a mobile phone??? Wasn't planning on upgrading this year, but if I was I might have still struggled to justify that price tag ;)

Well rather than raise it like $10-$15 per year they raised it after years of it starting at $649.

I think $549 now for a 7 vs $699 for an 8 is a unique value proposition for people that don’t care about a glass back/improved optics or wireless charging

The price has been $649 since iPhone 4s. It's not just 1 year.

Good point, but even 7+ to 8+ went up $20

FWIW, this comes with a double storage bump so that lessens the blow

And iPad Pro went up in price 599 to 649 from 9.7 to 10.5 so

One reason, to push you towards the iPhone X

I'm all for it. I enjoy my 7 Plus, after having the same three are designed primarily, I'm looking for something different and I think the iPhone X will be more fitting for me.

Actually, even the 6S is looking good now, especially with 32GB standard. My 6S Plus still have a one latest designs, is still fast, and is now paid off.

Smart to offer SE and 6s still,

For people that want a smaller size, or a headphone jack with the modern design that’s still the basis for the new phones

Disappointed there is no 128GB option as I'm looking for an upgrade from my 64GB iPhone 6 and the X model, at €1.149 for the cheapest model here is just too expensive. Over 1.100 Euros for a phone that will last barely two years?

I think I'll pass on the X until they iron-out the bugs.

Still the 8 isn't selling itself to me, might have to see what offers carriers here have.

Certainly the price increases have dented my enthusiasm for going out and ordering one immediately.

Man $1350 for a 256GB phone with AppleCare is steep. I want it for the camera, but damn that's really pricey, and it doesn't include any accessories.

I assume it's a margins thing, the bill of materials/ components has been going steadily up year on year, as they've gone for more and more advanced screens, cameras, chips etc. I think at this point they'd be happy if most people opted for a 7 though, by now the price on its manufacture has probably come down to the extent that they'll make as much selling one of those as an 8, so it's no odds to them.

New campus tax.
Store tax most likely, Angela looks like she's been running rampant with the company credit card ;)

They are concerned that they will not sell more devices. In order to increase their income, they have to raise the prices in order to get more revenue.

Upgrade cycles get longer.

*looks at my iPhone SE*

Think I am not going to have problem keeping this puppy for another year.
