When the Apple TV 3 was announced, I went on Craigslist to by an Apple TV 2. I figured that they should be selling for between $60 and $70 CAD. I was so wrong.
Used Apple TV 2s were selling for $90-$100 CAD on Craigslist even though the Apple Store periodically had refurbished ones for $79 plus taxes and a full 1-year warranty. Jailbroken TV 2s were selling for $130 and up. Total madness.
I finally snagged a refurbished model after I realized the used TV 2s weren't coming down in price.
It really is crazy. I did hte exact same thing today, went online to look for an ATV2 since our TV doesn't support 1080p anyway, and they cost the same as the 3. Stupid.
During that shortage between the store shelves being cleared and the ATV3 announcement they were selling over $100 at Amazon Marketplace. (I sold mine for $93)
I was expecting the ATV3 to be more of an improvement than what we got so I think that to many then the benefits of jail breaking a 720p device are worth more than having a 1080p but very little 1080p content.
