I bought the SS Sport after seeing them in person. The SS was more attractive to me than the Sport and I've got the money to make up the difference easily. I couldn't decide among the bands, but I knew that for running (if I bought a leather band) that I'd want to switch to a sport band. There is no cost advantage to buying a band with your watch if you are going to then buy the sport band separately. I'd also heard great reviews about the sport band so I though third party bands for the sport were going to be materially inferior compared to the $50 price. So I bought the SS with sport band.

Now I have option of just rolling with the sport band, buying a third party band, or buying the black classic buckle separately.

FYI, the Link was my initial preference because that is basically what I wear now. But after seeing it in person (and then later trying it one and feeling it) I was not interested in it. I've been wearing a SS Hamilton with SS band that, in my opinion, is vastly better. And my Hamilton is about the same price s the SS with Link. The Apple Link band didn't have the heft and the shine that I'd like to see in an SS band. Also the band didn't have enough detail and decoration for me.

I'm really happy that I have no interest in buying the $495 Link band now. It was an easy Pass once I saw it and felt it in person. I'm sure technically it is the best designed band in the world. Changing the links in my current watch was hard. But I did that once six or so years ago. So who cares if it was hard?

How quick did they run out? I ordered SS Link at 3:01 but then saw delivery date so then ordered SS Sport, and the link band after. Seems they lasted a bit longer then others, but not sure.

I took several minutes to decide to go the same route as you. I checked back to see how close I came to missing the delivery window about 20 minutes later and it was still 4/24.

Thanks, was wondering because surprised to hear it went quick. Took me a few minutes to get my bearings and decide on that route, but still got the 4/24-etc delivery at.

Over here, the SS/Classic Buckle was the only model to maintain a 4/24 delivery date up to 4 hours after the store opened.

Personally that's the model that appealed to me from the start (very classic) but was judging it way too expensive for what it is.

So I understand why people went for the cheapest SS Watch available.

After seeing it in person I really liked the SS/Classic Buckle, it is a very good model, it just wouldn't hurt to be priced $100 less.

I also ordered the SS with sports band.

The SS went the fastest is because of material durability and the cheapest entry to the SS case. Sapphire and stainless steel are miles better than glass and aluminum when it comes to durability, even at $200 cost, it'll stand up to daily abuse for years. The sports band is the most logical decision, since it's the cheapest, and would be the one you need if you were to exercise in it. All the other bands you can order even after preorders are made. You'll have time to pick and chose, even after you received your watch. The most important thing is to get the watch as soon as possible with whatever band that is most affordable.

I'll be heading to Disney World, so the SS with sports band is perfect for that. I'll be walking around and sweating anyway. After I come back and visit the Apple store a few more times, I'll be more acquainted with the different bands and which one I'd really like.

Even if I wanted the SS with link band (which I don't, too pricey for just the bands), I'd still get the SS with sports band. Then after when I'm comfortable, I'll spend the money on the link. Not that I don't have the money, but it'll make it easier to swallow, and allows me time to really think whether I should even pay it. Worst case scenario, I don't like the SS with link band, and I only have paid for the cheapest band available, instead of returning the whole thing (SS with link band), just to make another preorder with a cheaper band and wait at the end of the line for June/July delivery.

In any case, I'm just letting the initial demand pass, let the dust settle, then I'll have a clearer judgement of what other bands I may get.
