I've also noticed that they've taken video out (obviously, if it's titled music) and now we have music and video app icons... why? To me, this just bloats the home screen even more. Of course I could always create a folder to simplify it, but I just don't get this move. Thanks.

They split iPod into Videos and Music ... maybe because iPod was getting crowded? You could only have four tabs on the bottom and then a "More" to access the other tabs, ie; Albums, etc.

Maybe Apple designed something really useful and app specific in-regards to Videos and Music?

I think iPod has lost its shine. When I hear iPod I think of a hard drive with a crappy screen. iPhone and iPod Touch (they might call it an iPod, but to most people it's an iPhone sans cellular data) have taken over. Also consider Apple's unusual timing with the iPhone 5 release this year, looks like it might happen at the same time the iPods are typically refreshed. I think there's gonna be some rebranding going on as well as some devices getting the axe.

I don't know but I'm not sure I like it. Actually, I know I don't. Mainly because I see no justification.

They did that? Remember this is an early dev release, so some things will change. This could be the sort of minor thing they change back. I really hope they do because I hate bloating my homescreen.

I seem to recall someone specifically pointing out the change in the keynote, though I might be mistaken.

You could even see it during the keynote. I noticed it immediately as the icon is different. I didn't at the time however, see the video app until some hands on videos.

The images of the iPhone 4 and iPad on the Apple site (iOS 5 page) show them split up. I like both in one app as it is now, but I agree with the user stating that the word "iPhone" to name the app is becoming somewhat irrelevant.

Hopefully they are fleshing out the movie player with more supported formats and options so it requires it's own app.

Hey I can dream.

Maybe because it's nothing like an iPod anymore? It really never was, seeing as how iPhone came before the iPod touch. And the iPod Touch was always advertised as a little version of the iPhone. I think it's appropriate to call it 'Music' now. It's simple, and most likely it'll simplify things even more. and there was always a videos icon my iPad.

It could just be a beta version that uses the iPod touch stuff. I think the iPod touch has separate music and video stuff. The iPad does, but it still calls the music one "iPod" and also has a video one.

I get the benefits either way. I'm used to all of that being in the iPod app, but maybe each app can be streamlined by separating the two.

I can think of a very good reason for it: Consistency. It brings the iPhone in line with the iPod touch and the iPad. Why confuse matters by making it difference on different devices running the same platform?

It's just to reduce brand name confusion.

iPod = hardware
Music and Videos = software on iOS

Pretty simply to understand really.
