For me:

15" is perfect size, not too big, not too small.

Great OS

Slim and lightweight.

Great OS.

Powerful.

Great OS.

Dead sexy.

Really, really good looking. I never thought the way a laptop looked would be that important to me, until I saw the 15" MBP next to other laptops in a Best Buy. Instant material lust.

Agreed with every single point. Microshaft's new ads are kinda humerous...the sexy Macs sitting along side the cheap plastic PCs. Hmm I wonder which one I want.

Simply switching myself from pc to mac. a great laptop. never going back to pc again.

15" is a good size, but I needed to upgrade and it was all that was available

I squeezed every last bit of juice out of my last MBP and needed to upgrade, but heard Apple was coming out with a new machine, so I waited and waited....finally it arrived. MBAir is really for a select niche and is too limiting. I was hoping Apple would announce the 15" and 17" at the same time, I would have gone the 17"...it's big but not that heavy. Unfortunately the only had the 15" out for several months, so that is what I am using...it's a very good machine and the glossy screen is surprisingly nice.

I originally intended to keep my iMac & add a MacBook to it. Got the MacBook and hated the screen so i returned it. However, i still needed portability for school work and the Air was too expensive and made too many sacrifices to be worth it for me

After having hit a wall again i decided to sell the iMac and do a one computer setup. If i was going to have one computer it had to be decently powerful and portable, and since the MB/MBA had been eliminated i was left with the MBPs. The 17" model is both too big and waaay too expensive, at that price point its better to buy a MP/iMac.

Therefore i was left with the 15" model best balance of portability/specs/price

I had an Air (both Rev A&B) for a year and a half, and Apple had to keep replacing and fixing the machines (5 in all). There were just too many issues with it, and Apple agreed to swap it out with the 15" Macbook Pro w/ SSD.

Outside of the extra weight, I love the machine more than the Air. The 15" screen is going to be hard to ever try and leave should Apple ever fix the issues with the Air. That extra 2"s is really useful and seems to be the right screen size for a laptop.

I had a 17" Powerbook for years, and that really was too large in my opinion to be portable.

I initially bought a unibody MacBook. I loved it, but needed an Express card slot and FireWire port (FireWire, mainly). So, I traded it in for a Pro. I really liked the size of the MacBook, though.

I used to have a 17" PowerBook. I went with the 15" Pro mainly because it's easier to take to DJ gigs, and fits on the stands better.

The Air is, simply, out of the question.

I purchased my refurb 2.4 MBP because I finally found something that I thought as a worthwhile upgrade to my iMac 2.16 with 7600GT. So now the iMac is consigned to the upstairs office / exercise area.

I had been holding out for a significant update to the iMacs and it wasn't coming. The changes this year were so beyond boring and pointless that I figured the best upgrade was to the MBP coupled with my existing monitor from my homebrew PC (that probably had more parts replaced than Frankenstein)

Unless Apple does something extraordinary with their consumer desktop offerings my next desktop will be a hackintosh.

I'm curious to hear the reasons ....

Why not the new Rev B MacBook Air ... it's surprisingly fast, or the 17" MBP or MacBook or a desktop/iMac/MacPro?

15" MBP seems really popular right now.

WHY NOT buy a 15" MBP?

I just did.

Yeah the MBA is fast .... but limited in what it can do. ( no onboard optical drive - small HDD )

17" MBP --- nice, but too big to really be 'portable'.

MacBook - No Firewire - No Express34 card slot. - Limited Video performance

I was considering the MacBook but on many occasions I need FireWire, the selectable video card is a nice feature as well.

I wish they had a 13" MBP with Firewire and Express34 card slot.

no question a 13" MBP would be a hot seller ... wonder why they wouldn't make one... would take away from the MB Air sales I suppose seems if you want more performance they move you into a larger screen size > 15" MBP ... which isn't all bad I guess at least when you're looking at it ... heavier on the shoulder for sure

They should just make the MacBook Air look more like the MacBook Pro, beef up the performance and call it a 13 inch MBP.

I really hope that they don't do that. The glossy display is bad enough already, I really couldn't stand a glassy display! And I personally quite like the current MacBook Air design, I believe that it looks better than the current MacBook (Pro) design.

Amen

I can see where it'd be nice to only have one machine and not have to worry about having certain files on one Mac and not the other computer, but more is almost always better.
I'd take a 24" iMac and a MacBook Air in a heartbeat in exchange for my MBP and dual screen PC.

My current setup consists of ....

24" iMac
15" UMBP

I do have one Pent 4 Windows PC -
It is NOT allowed online and serves only one purpose - Controlling/Monitoring Amateur Radio Station - It has an RS-232 port and much of the radio gear requires that ( for now )q

Bought a 15" UMBP in Jan with the 24" LED to accompany it. Fantastic, easily the best computer setup I've had in 20 years of computing.

That said, if the MB had the same quality screen as the MBP, and a 1440x900 res, I probably would have plumped for the MB as a 13.3" lappy is the perfect size for me.

I wish I had bought a 15" uMBP... My first Mac was a Black Macbook that ran be about $2,000 at the time of purchase. While I used this old system, I came to realize that with my heavy use of 3D video games and Photoshop I would probably be better off with a MBP... I told myself that I would buy one when they put the chicklet style keyboard on the MBP (as I hated the classic keyboard).

However, when they added the backlit keys and aluminum casing to the 13" MB in October, I was so delighted by the ability to get these great looking exteriors on the smaller model, and only a price tag of $1,600!

I am now back where I was, wishing I had a MBP because my Macbook is a little underpowered for me at times... I had no problem droping $2,000 on my first MB, should have done the same the second time around and sprung for an entry level MBP.

I will be buying a uMBP in the fall by which time I am sure increases in processor speeds will have increased and, if all goes well, free iPods will be offered.

I was in the same situation as you are two months ago. I had the 1st gen MBA and the previous gen 24" iMac. I used to carry the MBA to work everyday and use the iMac at home. However I found the iMac to be kind of slow and because I also game under bootcamp the video card in iMac was quite lacking. Finally I sold my iMac, passed down the MBA to my gf and bought a 15" MBP. Now this is my main computer for both work and home. I just installed Windows 7 RC on it using bootcamp and the gaming performance actually increases. Couldn't be happier.

It does make a lot of sense to have 'one' main computer ... it's not the same to juggle between an iMac and a MBA unless you spend 80% of your time on the iMac and use the Air for netbook'ish type things ...

Otherwise if you didn't need the portability of the Air the MBP does make a pretty good full power desktop replacement and portable computer ...

You just have to get past the weight of the MBP, there is a difference, the larger screen is a good trade of though!

spans my legs perfectly when sitting on the can taking care of business.

lol:p

wanted an apple portable that had a better screen than the macbook and more power than the air.

17" is too big for a laptop in my opinion. My 13" works just fine right now, but I do wish it had a slightly faster processor and a little bit more RAM. That's why I'm debating picking up the MacBook Pro at some point this summer. Plus it'll have the backlit keyboard as well.

MBP is my only macintosh computer so I want everything I can out of it because it's plugged in to a keyborad, mouse and monitor 14 hours a day.

I bought mine for the following reasons

1. My little macbook couldn't handle the demanding pressure when using VMware
2. it looked sexy
3. If i bought it with apple care i got a free ipod touch.
4. I wanted a macbook pro to begin with but didn't have the money. So i settled for a Macbook.
