I used Netscape 3 originally but Netscape 4 Communicator was pretty bad so I switched to IE 4. I thought the Channels idea was quite cool at the time. It didn't catch on though. Stayed with IE until Firefox came out about 3 years ago. Bought a Mac very shortly afterwards and continued with Firefox. I don't think I've ever used Safari on my Mac.

Firefox is my main browser (on both OS X and Windows).
The two reasons I switched
A) Firefox's extensions (IGNBQ, an extension for the IGN Message boards was the biggest reason)
B) I got fed up with all of IE's crap
I don't see me ever going back to IE. I'm stuck using it right now and its driving me crazy.

I use IE7 on my PC. On my Mac, I use Safari, because newer versions of IE are not available on the Mac.

IE is way too slow, and it sucks. It was far behind most browsers like firefox and safari with no tabbed browsing until IE7 and it still sucks. I only use it if i really need it for something.

When I was still using PC's as my primary computing device up until September, I preferred Firefox. I did not like how IE's ActiveX controls just opened the door into your OS (can anyone say SPYWARE!) and the d**n thing just made too many stupid noises.
Firefox was nice becuase it was the first browser I knew of that implemented tabbed browsing (this was before IE 7), which I found really helpful. There were roadbumps down the road, but after version 1.5 was released, there wern't many website compatibility differences between IE and Firefox

MS discontinued IE support for Mac's long before I bought my first Mac in September.

I mourn for IE for Mac, I really liked it: never had probs rendering sites, was quite a bit quicker than netscape and dare I say it... it was so darned pretty - I loved the flavours. I had tangerine clamshell iBook with IE to match, then Bondi Blue iBook with IE to match... I just loved it... Sorry anti-ms brigade I know where you are coming from but for me it was the one and I would PAY for someone to take it over and update it...
I use Safar but I just don't like its ugly grey faux metal look, it is soooo slow at loading sites but then again has anyone else noticed the hangs that are happening with airport recently? I've no idea what the difference is between all the mozilla itterations that come out - camino, firefox, and that one that has everything in blue something I think... Opera is just urghhhh so visually unpleasing - to me - iCab just makes me laugh, like the previous comment about reminding us of the bad old days, netscapes okay - still download it now and again when a website doesn't recognise Safari (which happens quite often with forms).
I miss the appearance manager and the way I could get everything to look the way I wanted - and how I used to have no memory left for apps but did I care - no because my desktop looked so darned pretty rofl, wot a sad arse I am! But on that topic Kaliedascope and Iconfactory - the hours I spent changing themes and icons... ah the good old days - that little "fatal system error" message dialogue.

My first browser was netscape 1.0 some 12 years ago.. Back then there wasn't that much to see anyway 🙂
I can't remember when was it that IE was became my default browser, perhaps when I started using Windows 95 ... Ever since I remember, I have always been much in to trying out different software packages for the same goal, just to compare. I distinctly remember having problems using Mozilla and Phoenix, as it couldn't render *a lot* of pages properly and as a consequence I'd use IE5 or 6.
Firefox felt much better from the beginning and these days, with all the extensions that improve on it, it's hard to consider any alternatives. Sure, Camino is native and allows better drag and drop and integration with the rest of the OS; Safari is neat, works great with iLife apps and all, but Firefox can be the best most of the time: just fire up Adblock and suddently all other browsers fall behind in sheer speed, as they are still busy downloading stuff from adservers while Firefox is doing what *I* want it to. Add Google's Browser Sync and there you go: portable bookmarks and password sets. Add Repagination and there you have a much improved reading experience for long, artificially divided documents. the list goes on...
I'm sure that if "have it your way" wasn't taken, the Mozilla crew would find it a good slogan for their product.

I remembered back in the days 0f 8.0 / 8.6 - I have a vague memory of using IE and not enjoying it very much, I was young and foolish and have since made a distinct breakaway from such excessive waste of my potential. Wee for FF and safari.
Around 3 years ago, a friend of mine showed me firefox and taught me tabbed browsing. Never used I.E. after that day except to download firefox and windows updates.

I always hated IE, even when I was part of the dark side. But I was brainwashed back then (like most PC users are) into thinking the big blue 'e' was 'the internet'.
Now i use Safari exclusively.

I have a lot to thank Firefox for. I had no interest in switching to any platform, but my switch to mac was the culmination of a series of frustrations with Windows, chiefly IE. I made the switch to Firefox, which I absolutely loved and still do. I then thought, "why not switch to a different operating system altogether?"
Linux proved to be interesting, but did not have the simple compatibilities with hardware that even windows has. I'm not quite sure how I got interested in the mac, but it was entirely through my own experimentation and conclusions. Nobody persuaded me to switch. It had everything to do with moving to Firefox. IE was bloated; Firefox was not; just as the mac is simple, clean, and powerful under the hood at the same time.

I've always hated Internet Explorer and even more so when Microsloth incorporated the "feature" in XP that requires it to install updates. It's especially galling when the very problem with a Windows computer is Internet Explorer itself.
No version of IE will ever find it's way onto my Mac and I avoid using it like the plague on Windows also.

i switched mainly due to the tabbed browsing feature, and then discovered the whole new world of security and extensions 😀 - plus the GUI was better than IE's too.
on the mac, i still mostly use safari but still have firefox as backup just in case 😀
