why didn't apple include face unlock on iOS 5

My position is that:
a)Apple didn't hit it out of ball park w/ their 16 month long investment iPhone(the flagship product of #1 company in the world) announcement.
You should not have other product coming out only after 1 month which will have newer features that iPhone didn't think through(panorama and face unlock quickly comes to my mind(even though panorama is hidden feature in iOS) and at least listed as one of the 200 new features(which I do not know many of them anyway).
I don't care if it's not perfect. Offer to consumer as one of the options.
b)Let's not kid ourselves. This is not 2007. We have competition and it is for real. Having used Android for past 2 years(because iPhone wasn't available in verizon), I can seriously say that there are serious flaw w/ iOS device.(every device has flaw). Problem w/ IOS is that some of the flaw is extremely fundamental(separate volume control for alert and ringtones) and lack of their own mapping solution along w/ tight integration w/ its own os as well as lack of LED notification light. Number 1 company in the world cannot come up w/ their own mapping solution for this long and have to buy 3c to come up w/ it? It took too long.
Please don't say apple won't offer product or feature if it's not perfect or has flaw in it.
I really hate to think what really happen w/ battery issue. Number one company w/ that much time in their hand along w/ that many beta tester and period missed it. Simply and plainly missed it. One of THE feature of iPhone was suppose to be superb battery. HOw did they miss it???
Some of you mention that Siri is beta. Enough said. Apple is offering beta as THE feature. ??? So why not face unlock??? IF someone is that determined as to get your face picture, they will also steal your passcode. Launch w/ beta. So what it has some flaw. Apple shrugged off antenna issue last year w/ no shame. They could have shrugged off imperfect face unlock w/ breeze. INstead now stupid droid is gonna come out w/ those feature as cool feature. UNREal.
This is coming from someone who will buy iPhone 5 next year no matter what.

The "company A must copy company B to succeed" meme that seems to be popular with armchair industry analysts is waaay older than the iPhone and it's not any more true today than it ever was.
You're also kidding yourself if you think Apple is the "#1 company in the world". They're a good company but "#1" is always nonsense no matter who you're referring to. It's a highly subjective matter. I really like Apple's products but I wouldn't call them "#1" but I wouldn't call any company "#1". It's meaningless without qualification and the criteria used to establish the rank. Such bold and unsupported proclamations reek of ignorance IMO.
Why, if the iPhone is so flawed? If I was as unhappy with a company's products as you seem to be I wouldn't consider owning that company's products a "joy" and I would be buying the alternatives. Are you just blindly attached to Apple? Buy what works for you based on your needs/wants, not the brand attached to the product. It sounds like the iPhone isn't a good for you based on your own posts. Or are you just trolling?

The iPhone didn't become the smartphone that all other smartphones are compared to from Apple copying everyone else. Think back to what smartphones were like before the iPhone. Try actually looking at and learning from history.

That's not a flaw. They're separate on Android, BB and other platforms as well and you're the one claiming that Apple needs to copy the competition! Which is it? You may not want it that way but that's your preference. Never assume that your preferences are universal. If you can't tell, plenty of people just in this thread clearly don't agree with you on many points.
Nonsense. Photos of people are all over the place. Are you not familiar with Facebook, Flickr, etc? Where are people posting their passwords on lock codes in a similar way? Apples and oranges.

you're angry because Apple chose not to include unreliable and untested feature in the phone because you like it. You don't seem to be really that fond of Apple's phones anyway, what with the incredibly confusing volume control and the lack of an LED, but you're still going to buy the next iPhone What possible motivation would Apple (or any reasonable company) have for following your advice? Clearly it doesn't matter what they do, since you'll buy the phone anyway. If you want face unlock (god only knows why you would) or an easier way to change the volume, get a different phone. I'm still also confused about how you love buying Apple products if, again, you don't really seem to care for them in the first place. Regardless, complaining about a company and then still blindly giving them money is just....worthless.

Some are right(me being stupid for buying iphone 5 next year blindly which now I will wait for iphone 5 to make that decision), some are half right(apple being #1 company was not a subjective statement. They were in fact #1 in market cap (even if it was a brief crown) http://www.marketwatch.com/story/apple-crowned-no-1-with-biggest-market-cap-2011-08-10 (I will say half right since I wasn't being specific enough of what I meant by #1 company. HOwever, I would say being #1 in market cap size for anytime is immense achievement).
Maybe I didn't articulate my view well but couple things are clear.
a)I love apple product. I owned imac/macbook/iphone/ipod touch/ipad.
(with atv 2 before end of 2011 and mba for next year(along w/ obvious upgrades of ipad 3)
b)I love iphone because there are more good feature than bad.
(good feature)
-superior build
-love the brand
-super stable OS(smooth)
-apps that were built for the phone(naturally runs better on IOS due to none fragmentation)
-I know phone will run like a champ for 2 years(meaning, it won't get bogged down like droid phone and start being sluggish
after couple month
-I love the SIRI!!!
-kick ass screen(for now)
(lack/bad feature)
-lack of google map and true integration w/ the system(I hope that 3c integration comes up next year)
(Honestly, hearing all this HUGE profit apple is making me bit angry. Shouldn't apple start pumping in the money back
to the field so that consumer can feel them?(AWESOME free unique map program for example; I hope 3c is this)
-LED notification.(whoever mention about stupid backlight LED flash being replacement for true led notification from droid is

of alert for day and night.(so when I go to bed, it automaticaly turns off all other alert sound except ring tone).
I know some of you look at me w/ shady right now cause I am criticizing the apple. But my point is this. Let's not be blind.
Let's recognize the flaw and hopefully apple will recognize and start fixing them.

When I purchased my Nissan Versa, I was fully aware that it did not include a:
- Sun roof
- V8 engine
- GPS
- 4 wheel drive
- Cruise Control
Yes, other cars do offer this functionality, but for me those were not essential items that I required in my vehicle because if they were, I would not have purchased my car and then complained about how stupid it is that my car lacks these features and then call it a Flaw. I bought my car because it was nice, compact, price and its great on milage (I travel a lot and this was a must).
jvmxtra, if you are unsatisfied or are confused about what you have purchased, then it sounds to me that you didn't do proper research before doing so. Otherwise you wouldn't be making such claims. Also, with iOS 4 Apple released 11 updates, so just because x features is not in iOS 5.0, their is still plenty of time for things to change and be implemented later in time.
OP, you need to learn that Apple dances to the beat of their own drum. They don't care what their competitors put on their Spec sheet and then try to match it. Complaining that Apple doesn't have X features and should implement it (even if buggy) just because X company has it is a rather baseless critique.
Android ICS has face unlock and in their demo it didn't even work. It isn't worth the trouble. You can easily use a picture of a person to unlock the phone so it isn't the best security option.
Dell supposedly had a "picture-proof" face unlock system on some laptops and I tried it out - Pictures unlocked the computer easily.

That was me that mentioned it. Shouldn't've been too hard to look up my name, should it? As for whether I'm delusional or not, that's beside the point (and a bit insulting): you seemed to believe that the iPhone had no LED notification light; I proved it does. If you want to ignore it because it doesn't meet your pre-conditions, fine.
Yes, I have it turned on right now.
I sleep with my eyes closed so that's not an issue for me.
I do lately because I know I've turned on that feature.
