Why do applications list as Devices to eject

Can anyone tell me why some applications when installing or running list as Devices in Finder and have the eject logo next to them? What happens if i hit the eject button? Do I delete the application?

Its a bit strange having them there, if anyone can tell me how to get rid i would appreciate it.
