Why do I have to delete mail twice?

Lately, I'm having to delete email trash twice - once from the iCloud trash and again from "On my Mac" trash. Both these trash "cans" are listed separately as subfolders within the Mail Trash icon.

It didn't work that way with Lion and, as far as I remember, this didn't happen with ML until recently. I checked the Preferences for Mail and I don't see where there would be an option to delete from iCloud and have it gone.

What am I missing? 😕

Apple Mail is a POS

I spoke to Apple about this and was told that was the way it was and it could not be changed.

If anyone knows of how to fix this, I'd like to know also.

Do you have both trash options checked under Preferences > Mailbox Behaviors? I have iCloud connected to Apple Mail and do not have this issue.
