Can someone explain to me the security risk of updating an iOS app without a password?

Not free apps, not purchases, just updates. It is a minor niggle now I have an iPad, I'd like to know peoples fears as to why this is a bad thing.

The only time I have to approve an Android update is when app permissions change, this is to prevent a bait and switch situation where a basic app could be updated to have access to, location, contacts for example without a users knowledge for nefarious purposes.

It's not just the constant passcode challenges.

It's also getting hit with the dreaded "Apple has updated the App Store User Agreement" message that knocks you out to a browser to read ten pages of the finest print warning possible. It is annoying as heck.

There is none people are just trying to justify the annoyance for reasons unknown.

I agree, it's ridiculous that you have to type in the password to update apps. You should also be able to set it so any app updates download automatically in the background when on WiFi or something.

Android allows for all the things being requested here. I'm not suggesting to jump ship to Android, but rather Apple needs to update [many areas of] iOS.

The biggest thing for me, though, is to stop kicking us out of the App Store after we pick an app to begin downloading. The animation of the icon going to the home screen is cool the first few times, and none after. This frustrates me to no end; Apple thinks we shop one app at a time every single time.

Just give me the option not to notify me. I'm fine updating on iTunes and syncing.

Yup, but I think part of the reason is the way iOS handles multitasking. Android slows way down when it's updating in the background. My SGS I was bad, but the KF takes the cake. That thing almost completely freezes when running app updates. It's painful.

Imagine you heard here on MacRumors that a certain upgrade to a certain app should be avoided. So you don't update. And your stupid little brother grabs your iPad or iPhone and updates it. Which he can because he doesn't need a password. And then he downloads a dozen free apps that you don't want.

That's why I said it should be a choice. For someone like me who doesn't have to worry about little brothers or anyone else, bypassing the need for entering a password would be awesome

It is very obtrusive. My password is long and we SHOULD HAVE THE OPTION to turn it off. Of course options aren't possible with this company.

I'd liove to sit down with Scott Forstall and just ask why his believe iOS doesn't give me the option to tun off this annoyance.
Do you mean EVERY single update. There is a setting for a 15 minute window, vs every single download. Personally, I tend to group my buying/updating to type it fewer times.

Just couldn't tell from this thread if that setting was known.

I totally agree with this and I told Apple in their feedback form a few months ago. Hopefully some day they might decide to let us update apps automatically.
