I'm having to send in my iPhone for a repair. I found it interesting that I had to turn off Find My iPhone. Does anyone know the reason why? It's as if they don't want you to know where the phone actually goes...

Turn off Find My iPhone

Find My iPhone is on. You won’t be able to complete this service request and the technicians cannot perform the repair. Turn off Find My iPhone and keep it off before sending in for repair.

Just in case they need to restore your phone. 😁 I’d be restoring it before sending it in, might have a dishonest worker looking through your phone.

Apple made me do the same thing at the
apple store, when getting my screen replaced.

Nah this is standard procedure dont panic

Standard procedure because there is a high chance that your device will be replaced and then your device will be refurbished as a replacement or resell.

Technician can also restore device to remove personal information and run further diagnostic to ensure everything checks out and decide whether optimal resolution to either repair or replace based on warranty.

You also have to do it if you trade-in your iPhone because this feature is specifically tied to your device.

It also keeps people from trying to "repair / turn-in" a stolen phone, that has had Find My turned on (as I would assume most people do). It tries to ensure that at least the original owner of the phone has turned off Find My (of course, doesn't stop it if OO didn't turn on Find My in the first place, but would think it's a more minority situation).

Also when you turn it in for repair there's also a chance they'll just give you a new phone. That's happened to me before.

They then (I assume) either recycle or possibly repair and resell your phone as a refurbished unit.
