One annoying thing about atv is having to reboot it daily just about. You kinda know when it’s time. Apps stop working. It’s like it’s out of memory.
We have three Apple TVs on our three most used TVs (one aTV HD, two 4Ks). We use them exclusively since we got rid of Dish. I only remember having to reboot one of them, only one time, in the past year or more.

I never have that problem with my ATV. And I'm constantly running beta versions of the OS. Perhaps you need to do a factory reset.

One reason to have the Apple TV is to link with pair of HomePod. I have just got that set up and am really impressed with the sound and I do like I can stream videos, music or even photos from by iPhone direct to the Apple TV/HomePod. Very useful!

I also like the Apple TV remote - and there is also the option to control using control centre direct from iPhone.

Seriously, give me a good reason to switch over to it. Just got a new Samsung TV and I am really impressed with the apps available. Pretty much everything I use on my Apple TV is on the TV. Apple TV is hooked up but I’ve been using the TV apps for Netflix, YouTube, Prime, etc. On top of it all, the TV remove is impressive (and also will control Apple TV).

I guess a related question, why would anyone with a newer TV like this but an Apple TV or any other add on device for the matter? Ami I missing something? Apple Arcade isn’t enough for me.

Happy Thanksgiving all.
I bought the ATV because I wanted to be able to watch my previously bought iTunes movies or redeemed digital codes. most recently the PS4 introduced the Apple TV app and I will be merging my living room 4K TV and my projector into one room. I won’t need an Xbox, a PS4 AND and ATV so I will be getting rid of the ATV.

ps5 appletv app looks fuzzy compared to my actual appletv. So if you care about interface resolution that might bother you. Ill stick using my appletv for most things as Im paying for a 4k device that performs in all aspects including interface. If you haven't noticed then don't worry about it :D

Same here, the only time I reboot is when there is an update. It runs pretty smooth. My non-4k one in the bedroom needs to be unplugged and plugged on occasion because it doesn't wake up every now and then.

Well, I discovered a game changer. The quality of the audio is much better through the AppleTV in my setup, especially enhanced audio such as Dolby Atmos. I discovered this while playing some music over the TVs built in Apple Music app. It didn’t sound great on my Samsung HW-Q70T 3.1.2ch Soundbar w/ Dolby Atmos / DTS:X (2020). I was barely getting any output from the SW. I switched over to the AppleTV4K and the sound was Rich and separated. I then tested The Grand Tour on Prime (the muscle car drag race episode) and the AppleTV has more depth and separation.

Still thinking about whether the issue is the apps, or the TVs sound processor in terms of ability to decode the audio from its own apps. The AppleTV’s audio runs to the TV via HDMI and out to the Soundbar via HDMI eArc.

Anyone with a decent audio setup care to test the sound quality of the TV Apps vs the AppleTV4K apps?

Dealing with arc isn’t the best. I rarely use tv apps on my oled Sony. Sound is slightly different than my appletv yes. Also YouTube or something that starts and stops takes a second for audio to kick in over arc. I much prefer using my appletv or shields apps to my receiver for both my atmos systems.

Thanks for this. I have been out of the game for a bit and still catching up. Prior to this set-up, optical was the preferred connection. Now from what I understand, you can't really get Atmos without an ultra HD 8k HDMI cable with ethernet that supports eArc. I ordered all new HDMI cables. I only have two inputs - AppleTV and the Cablebox. I am not sure these cables are going to make a difference on the ATV and Cablebox. I was using a high quality Belkin for the ATV and I don't think the Cablebox cable was all that bad, but why not. The key cable that needs eArc is running from the TV to the Soundbar.

I here you on Arc or eArc. It's buggy.

I love the apple tv interface and POWER compared to that firestick I used.
the good thing about the apple tv is i can watch mp4 videos from my macbook air and control the volume with the bose sound touch with the remote.

My tv will output atmos over arc. Be it is dolby true hd but it gets converted to atmos. That cable should be fine if you tv can actually output atmos over arc. My other tv from 2018 can’t. Optical cable won’t ever pass atmos nope.

I have a smart TV and still use an ATV too (AndroidFV stinks and is slow), but man do I wish they’d release an update. There’s been one rumored for like 18 months now.

Thanks, I will circle back once I get the eArc rated cables. My 2020 Samsung Frame ("75) is supposed to support Atmos and eArc. I actually have a special HDMI output for it.

For reference, this is the "eArc" cable I am waiting on, I am pretty sure the "e" stands for ethernet:

Says right in the description further down it stands for enhanced audio return.

I prefer appletv over built in apps because they will always get updates. I’ve yet to see a tv continually get consistent updates. I hope that’s starting to change but I will not bet it does.

Plus I like the remote and the picture quality is superb.
