Why do i need windows to escape the icloud garden

nothing against it, i just don't use it anymore... so why do i need it to access my photostream with another photo manager or to sync my bookmarks to icloud from chrome? I still don't like safari or iphoto. I get the apple walled garden philosophy, but it just isn't fair...

If you don't want to use it then don't. If you want to use a different platform you can. Even on OSX you don't need to set up iCloud
