All you are buying is an extra watch face. All the hermes bands are on ebay for pennies. Most likely made in the same chinese factory that hermes gets them made at.
They are hand sewn in France.

I never heard of Hermès until the AW came along. I don't even think I'm a target for their marketing as I am male. I know all leather bands, last only 2 years maybe 3, if you wear them everyday, because they start to smell. I doubt even their high quality leather bands can avoid being smelly after 3 years of everyday wear. Their marketing is so good I don't even know how they got to me. The Hermès faces are nice, they give it an almost analog look like you're wearing a real mechanical watch. But the Apple face that came with AW3, I think it's called the Explorer, the one with green dots indicating cellular strength is a good looking analog face. What did Hermès do to me with their subliminal marketing??
For $211 you get an orange sport band, the second year of warranty, and the watch faces. It is cheaper to just get the bands if you don’t care about the watch faces. That said, the bands are nice, and the colored bands are more durable than the fauve barenia since they are made with treated leather.

That may or may not be true if you're talking about the legit Hermes sport band. I've seen them trade for $150-200 on fleaBay. Knock offs...no problem. Talking $10!

Hermès carries the branding. And the quality of the band. That’s really what you’re purchasing. Apple still partnered with Hermes simply because it still a fashion item, but by no means is that going to be anything specific to the core demographic who wants the Apple Watch.

Yeah, its about having a Hermes. I mean, you could ask the same about Gucci wallets or Fendi bags. Why do I want one? Because it's a Gucci.

That said, I will likely buy my wife a Hermes AW, Series 4, for Christmas. It's her style, much moreso than the regular SS model, and goes with her other Hermes bags and accessories.

I bought two of them last week one for the wife and one for me. I am now trying to exchange mine with a non-Hermes SS.

Yes the watch faces are very nice and the leather band is nice but, I felt it was just overpriced for me. My wife is definitely more into it than I am and will be keeping her.

The experience is nice but, for me I just quickly got over it and the thought about a lot of things I could do with $600+

You can easily clean the leather. lol

The only Apple Watch id ever buy is the Hermès version. The faces (the only good apple watches faces by the way) and their leather bands are top notch. I really struggle with wearing a watch that is mass produced in China. The only reason I wear it is because Apple partnered with Hermès.

Hope they keep it up for a Series 5.

I don't own a AW yet, but every time I go to buy one, I want a Hermes one. I like the face, leather strap and the orange strap the come with them. It just looks more stylish to me. Tempted to get one now, but in 6 months the new ones will be out.

Wish there was a store around me to try them on.

The more I get into mechanical watches, the more I realize just how overpriced the Hermes edition is. For non-exotic leather, the prices they are charging are pretty insane. The Hermes band I had was nice, but no nicer than a quality leather band from a company like Colareb. Certainly not 3 or 4 times the price nicer.

You are definitely paying for the name, faces, orange box, and orange strap. You are not really getting anything other than faux exclusivity for your money. For a lot of people that is worth the price. If someone is thinking of purchasing one, then they have to decide if the value of that exclusivity is there for them.

The Hermes edition was always meant to be an ‘extremely limited version’ for those who really want the Hermès branding. That’s it. Apple never intended this model to be for the masses, when 90% or more opt for the aluminum model. I think the only real advantage I would care about the Hermès personally, would be the watchband, because they do have high-quality leather bands, but none of the else with the Hermes branding matters to me whatsoever.

For me, I’m not a fan of high end brranding. However I got the Hermes 4 for the watch faces (I very much dislike current Apple Watch faces), and those watches faces combined with the leather straps made for them sold it for me. I was always going to go stainless steel, alumium not an option for me, so I splurged that but extra for something I’ll grt good daily use out of for at least the next two/three years.

Never saw the attraction to the Nike or Hermès but other do for sure. Apple gives us the choice. As far as holding value, I think they all do that the same . . . Poorly.

These are not investments for sure.
