The last one I had that failed on me was when I got my 7+. Since then I haven’t had any issues. I also have many cables as backup that are still in their packaging.

I'm serious. They all die or stop working. Brand means nothing.
If you meant the Apple ones, then it's because of the crappy smooth/short sheath near the plug that Apple used, and the environmental choice Apple chose to not use PVC. Thus the cable rubbery material is more prone to cracks and breakage, especially in hotter/more humid areas. Of course, it's ironic that Apple picked a more environmental friendly material that results in a cable that has to be replaced more frequently. Such a genius business strategy...

i never had a lightning cable fail on me...it did once but it was because that my iPhone 7 Plus was wet...but other than that i never had the cable fail on me...it did a few times for my wife but not me personally.

They fail because people pull them out by the cord instead of the connector or bend the cables. The ends fall on the floor and get run over by chairs and vacuums.
yup.pulling it out by the cord is the biggest reason... i had my brother in law do that to my cable once and i started keeping it away when not in use...owh and just letting it go with a whack when it hits the floor.smh some people just dont care.

You got it! I've never managed to destroy a lightning cable. My kids (despite repeated reminders not to) always yank them out by the cord, and dangle the charger from their iPads etc. They've destroyed 2 sets of cables in the past year.

Nothing is indestructible. Depending how well you take care of it is going to mean how long it lasts. If you use your phone while it’s plugged in that means that cable is going to get flexed a lot and going to work sooner. If you plug in your phone and set it down while charging cable doesn’t get moved much and will last a long time. I found out since my iPhoPro Max that I haven’t killed a single lightning cable because I don’t need to charge all the time while I’m using it.

I've also got a whole bunch of them going back to the iPhone 5s and they are all still fine. I have one cheap third party long cable that works fine for power but is flaky with data transfer. However, it was like that new and I only use it to power my phone in the car anyway.

I do not directly tug on them but I'm always on the go and have toddlers that are rough on everything in the house. I'd love an all-metal cable that can endure the worst of insults.

They don’t all fail. I’ve not had one fail yet. The better question would be. Why do all of your lightning cables fail?

^This. I never had one fray on me either, and I’ve got tons of them laying around the house.

All cables fail, as everything put together sooner or later falls apart. 😋

As others have mentioned, if you do not overstrain them (bend too much or twist closer to the joints), they are actually holding surprisingly well, I find.

In this case I would be more worried about the device attached to the cable. Charge your stuff higher up on the shelf where they cannot reach them? Or in another room?

I must be the exception. I haven't had one fail on me.

Do you keep yours rolled up in the same manner as the packaging?
Ive had "newer" cables fail on me (since iPhone 5s). The older ones (iPod nano 2007) is still like brand new.

completely agree the newer cables for handhelds are cheaper. I had the original iPod 5gb and that cable withstood my teenage roughness. My original iphone cable from 2007 was a beast. However, back then the laptop cables were trash because the connector would bend with any sort of moderate insult.

I have owned the Caudabe ChargeFlex Lightning cable since February 11 of this year, and it has been wonderful in terms of durability and length of cable. Honestly I love this cable more than the one that come with the iPhone. I bought 2 USB adapters (they are USB C to Lightning) so I can use it in my SUV with CarPlay.

I have yet to have an  cable fail in all my years using iPhones and iPads. Anker has never failed for me as well. I guess I'm more careful in handling, removing and storing.
