I'm working on this project (in SD not HD) and when I import a picture first of all it shows up very small in the canvas, and then when I zoom into the photo is is very pixilated! These photos are at a very high resolution and should look a lot better than this. Any tips?

Make sure your Video Quality (in system settings, Playback Control) is set to HIGH.
Also, you might be looking at a render preview only - just render it and see if that makes a difference.

Nope, that doesn't help.. Is it becuase I'm DV NTSC Anamorphic?

Do you have video in the sequence that is anamorphic? If not, then you should not be working in that setting unless you first properly size your photos to fit that resolution.

Go to your browser and select a photo, get Properties and see what the frame size says. I bet it's tiny which is why it's showing up that way on your monitor.
