why do people use Nike+ with the iPhone?

no you're not. he didn't say anything about plugging anything in to the nano. he is saying that if sweat gets into the dock connector port (which it could since it is exposed unless in a case that covers it) it can corrode the pins. he is saying that since it happened to his nano it could also happen to an iphone. which is true. just take better precautions to prevent liquid from getting anywhere near it, never mind into a port or socket.

i'm not sure how he's carrying his iphone while running. i have it in a case on my arm and there is no way that it gets wet from swet. i also have a small ziplock with me because in case it starts raining during running and it's good to be able to bag the iphone then.

I had an iPod nano that I used to run with and the contacts got corroded from my sweat. It got to the point where it would no longer sync with my computer. It wasn't a huge deal to replace, but the iPhone would be a much different story. For tracking purposes I use a Garmin 305.

Well to be honest it is hard to know if he had something plugged in or not. Depends on what he was syncing. If it is Nike+ info with a Fat nano he did have to have something plugged in. Hard to say one way or another with what has been given.

I just don't understand why people use the iPhone with Nike+. Have they not seen that big opening in the bottom of the phone with the metallic contacts? Last time I checked, you sweat alot when running. Sweat = liquid + salt. Liquid + salt + metal = bad. The iPhone is so expensive to replace when it's non-subsidized that I can't imagine taking that risk.
Exactly my opinion. With all those watersensors flipping, they might refuse your phone if it needs to be repaired. Even if it has nothing to do with water. Some users actually experienced this in Belgium.

Thank you. I know u don't plug anything into the iPhone or iPod touch. I was referring to the old nano. But back to the post, if the port is at the bottom, sweat won't get in, unless you hold ur iPhone or iPod touch upside down

his point remains which blancoBronco completely avoided, if sweat (salt water) gets on the contacts it will slowly corrode them, which is a very real possibility with the iphone since you don't need to plug anything in to the bottom of it for nike+.

for me its a no brainer, if you sweat enough that there is a possibility of getting drops of liquid on the phone you need to be carrying it on another part of your body or investing in a better case for when running. i'd be more worried about voiding my warrantee from triggering the liquid sensors than corrosion though.

I didn't avoid the issue. I said that sweat is not a problem with the iPhone, because it won't get into the iPhone, unless you hold it upside down. But if this is the case, then it definitely could mess up the phone. But this is an unlikely situation, because it's difficult for sweat to get into the port, and like many people have already said, they keep it in some sort of case or armband or in their pocket

And if it is raining do you not take your iPhone with you? Sure tons of things can happen but it is just an iPhone. Use it and stop acting like it should be placed in a glass case at all times.

yeah i would take it with me. i never said it should be kept in a glass case, but corrosion happens over time, water sensors go off in seconds, hence i'd be more worried (did i say by how much?).

i don't run, but i'm guessing someone who does and uses nike+ would want to use it regularly rather than only on a sunny day. perhaps he's indoors on a treadmill?
