Some (quite alot actually) of Mac users hate QT Pro (on any platform) and I feel a d.head for forking out the money for it.

If its export to iPod abilities dont improve 1000% it will badly hold back the video iPod

You want reasons?

Let's see... It does not work with many mpeg1 and mpeg4 codecs, does not play mpeg2 unless you pay extra, no full screen unless you pay even more, nagging screens to go Pro, it tries to preload as soon as I login (along with other such programs, this slows down your login considerably and if you disable these startup items through msconfig, then MS will display annoying warning messages at each login), does not play DVD's or VCD's, so you need one more program... Need more reasons? The only thing going for QT so far is the nice semi transparent white control buttons (pause, FF, Reverse etc.) in full screen mode. Other than that WMP on PC is much better.

It installs crap all over the place, takes over file associations, puts a tray icon in, even when I don't want it, keeps asking me to upgrade to QT Pro, it's slow, it crashes a lot (I used to get crashes when I resized the player window) and it isn't terribly well-featured.

Quicktime Alternative is the way to go on Windows, especially coupled with Media Player Classic.

By contrast, Quicktime on my Mac is fine. No problems at all.

I don't know why Windows users hate quicktime, I also don't know why anyone would use Windows.

Wow. Can anyone match this staggering display of ignorance and narrow-mindedness? Some of us have to use Windows for work, for example.

I do have to admit that QuickTime on a PC is really bad, it crashes, it's slow, it's limited in the format support and you get the stupid pop ups. Windows Media Player on a Mac is worse, that why I think it's a Microsoft problem.

But QuickTime Pro on a Mac rocks, you cannot compare the quality of the player to Windows Media Player. I still think the Soreson plugin is one of the best QuickTime plugins out there even though it is kind of getting old.

And yes the Windows Vs. Mac battle continues....

When I was using Windows, I really enjoyed WMP. It played everything, good performance and a good sound when playing MP3s (before I was using iTunes).

Quicktime didn't do it for me on a MS box. I always enjoyed the streaming quality of QT.

Now on a Mac, Quicktime is my favorite player.

Quicktime on Windows is a dog, I wont go into details as they have already been posted.

I do no like Quicktime on Mac OS either. It's features are poor (even with Pro version), and for some reason the image quality is awful. It's noisy, poor scaling, has a colour shift in shadow details. DVD Player is the same as well. VLC is far better for image quality.

Having a 100% Microsoft software on a Windows PC works better than if you mix third party apps with it designed from a competitor. Also you can't play *.mov, *.mp4, *.aac files using Microsoft Media Center. All that integration and uniformity is gone. It makes the eXPerience less enjoyable.

I guess that I have just been lucky, or haven't used it enough, but WMP on Mac has never given me a bit or trouble, and works great for times you need to view Windows media. OTOH, I have always hated WMP on Windows, but I hate QT on Windows even more. Why can Microsoft make a product that works better on the competitor's OS, but Apple can't seem to do the same? The early iTunes for Windows were horrible, a total waste of time. OTOH, iTunes on the Mac is sweet. I just wish they would do a better job with the feature set of QT and make it more like WMP from a features perspective; I refuse to pay extra for QTPro to get the features that QT should have provided for free (esp. full screen mode).
