At the restaurant I worked for the reason we hated Diner's Club was that instead of the short turn around on getting your money back from regular credit companies like VISA or Master Card, Diner's would take 5 business days to get the money out to you after a customer had paid. In a small business that's a ridiculously long time especially since if the amount was charged on a Friday you wouldn't receive payment until the next friday. Monthly BAS statements were awful when you show large amounts still outstanding because you're waiting for Diner's Club to send through payment.

So much dislike for Discover?

My parents have had Discover, and I got my own in like January. That used to be Costco's card, and so they used it because of that. Personally, I see nothing bad with Discover. They didn't give me a sales pitch when I activated my card (unlike my Chase Visa; maybe its a Chase thing and not Visa). They don't sell you retarded little nickel and dime insurance policies or whatever. And, no call center in India when activating. I remember talking to a guy in Utah, and he quickly activated my card without selling me any silly policies.

Compared to my Chase's point system, it does basically end up being that Discover's Cashback gives almost the same amount of money back, but at least it's in cash, not a gift certificate or what have you.
