You could live in Washington State, they pay ZERO income tax. Best of both worlds, live/work in Washington St. on the Oregon border, then shop in Oregon. Almost tax free, except for delivery items or automobiles. But anything you can pick up and carry yourself is tax free. :D

I remember stories from over 20 years ago where MA would have restrictions about how much certain items (cigarettes? liquor?) could be transported across the state border. NH would have stores right across the state border, and many MA residents would zip up to avoid taxes. MA started placing cops with binoculars and telescopes at the large highway stops to track cars with MA plates who made purchases that appeared to be over the limit. They would radio the license plates to troopers inside the border to pull the rubes.

I don't know if MA is still fighting this way or not. I wouldn't be surprised if the state of WA would try some similar shenanigans.

I agree it's annoying.

I'm in Canada, and I get charged $.99/1.29 for music, period. Then I go and buy an app and get charged tax on it. Granted, it's only 5% where I live in Alberta, but it's still annoying.

What's the difference between music and apps that causes this disconnect?

I live in California and no tax here for digital goods. Which I am very surprised about. Especially with the whole Amazon deal and Sacramento scrapping for every penny they can get. I think silicon valley probably has a pretty big lobby in Sacramento and is keeping it off any piece of legislation.
