I have Macs because I used to have PC's. After a year of watching a Win XP installation devour itself I thought, "There has to be something better than this!"

Turns out, I was right.

But in day-to-day tasks Mac's with their superior OS and software libararies, will be faster. Especially considering you don't have to be fixing things here and there... it just works...

Also, I have built myself a 1500 Euro (> 1500 USD) PC and it sucks, it's the second time the motherboard (Asus) brokes and I have replaced countless expensive cpu fans...

I've never had problems with my PC that were not caused by external hardware.

When it comes to the computer itself, its fast, fast, fast. It's also an internet-virgin, so that probably helps. :p

As for my macs, they are also extremely responsive.

That does not mean that they can render out frames just as fast, it means they are just as responsive for everyday use, such as internet and file browsing, which I love about them. The lack of power is just because I cannot afford an iMac with an i7 and 12GB of RAM, but i CAN afford a PC with those specs. (which is why I own one)

If Apple would drop their prices, they would totally run everyone else out of business. (If they are not already doing that in some markets!!)

It's amazing actually. Just think, 13 years ago Dell was advising Apple to call it quits. NOW look at them!

It seems that most people are either biased towards one side, or the other. Rarely do I ever meet people like me who express no bias whatsoever. I have both. I love both probably because I adjust easily to things (whether it's hardware or OS). Im my experience, my PCs and Macs have not had any problems at all. I find that Windows 7 and Snow Leopard are on par with each other, but feel free to disagree.

Mac OS X

I read through the other comments and surprisingly I don't think anyone has mentioned Quick Look. There are a whole host of reasons that I love my MacBook, but I think the operating system is what really sets it apart for me. Windows 7 is a giant leap forward on the Windows side, but until it is as easy-to-use as Snow Leopard I won't be using it often.

So i figured we could start a thread to let people know why we love our macs and why we didn't stay with PC.

I've always used a mac (we always had macs at home, never a pc), so there was never any 'switching' over for me. However I don't think I would ever buy a PC- I'm fairly inept on a PC, I can't understand the set up, and why certain things always seemed more complicated then OSX.

For Apple, I like the designs, OSX is simple and easy to use, there's generally no problem with Applecare and customer relations (in terms of getting things fixed) etc.

One thing I dislike with apple is that they keep on changing ports etc, or only offering one way of connecting a mac laptop with a tv/another computer etc. Going from my powerbook to my mbp I had to buy a whole new set of adapters etc which was just costly and annoying. What's worse, is that these adapters won't even fit with the white macbooks my sister and mum have. I know technology changes etc, but we just end up with a draw full of different adapters, and i can never seem to find the right one!

You picked the absolute worst task as an example. With no print screen key, screen caps are a b***h unless you remember the awkward 3/4 key combos.

OH YEAH!

like them whatchamacallits?

cmd+shft+4 (or 3)?

Dem damn hard to rememba der Cleatus

Macs have a high degree of polish. Apple sets the bar high with OS X, and lots of Mac apps follow suit.

Sometimes it's simple things, like how the screen gently fades to blue and then back when you plug in a new monitor or projector, instead of flickering and distorting (or, like too many PCs I've worked with, sitting there dumbly not doing anything until you remember what keystroke you're supposed to use to enable the new screen.) And how it always seems to remember the settings you used with every monitor and projector you plug it into, so next time you plug into the same hardware, it sets it up again, just how you liked it.

The software tends to make you look good, too. Create a presentation in Keynote, a newsletter in Pages, or show a slideshow from iPhoto or burn a DVD with iDVD, and people wonder how you got it to look so good.

Cause my family's first computer some 15 years ago was a Mac (my brother used them at school). I was upset and wanted a PC so I could play games :D

Anyway, since then I've had Macs (and PCs). I always loved the UI going back to OS 7.5.5. I love it even more now because it's Unix and the development tools that come with it. Mac OS X has become more mainstream (mainly cause of the iPod) so there is support for a lot of great software than there was before.

The switch to Intel means I now only need one computer to have both a Mac and PC. I built my last PC 2 years ago and probably won't do it again any more. Owning a Mac simply saves me money in this regard!

I just received my very first mac a couple days ago, and i love it. ....

for me:
-very reliable
-snappy, even after years of abuse
...

?? lol, but yes it is snappy after years of abuse, ran like a dream til the day i sold it for the i5

Spoke to a friend who comes to me with all his technical questions yesterday, and he had just bought his first iMac. He said that he paid, took the box home, opened it and got very upset. He then proceeded to ring one of his friends in anger saying that they left out his computer and only gave him a monitor and one white cable. The friend replied, just plug it in there is a computer there, to which replied "BS!....I'll call you back" He plugs it in and boom its ready to go, he just couldn't stop raving to me about his beautiful machine.
