Why do you have to turn your phone off silent to hear instagram stories?

This is really irritating, is this an IG thing or an Apple thing?

I don’t? First it’s mute (good!) and if I press the volume up it starts playing audio.

My phone is on silent most of the time, IG videos do play sound. Some games need me to move from silent to ring to play sound, but not IG.

I think it’s a glitch on Instagram’s side. Personally, this only happens about 10% of the time for me so it’s not easy to predict or duplicate. I don’t see how it can be intentional.
