I've been a Mac user for nearly 10 years. I would consider myself a power user. I'm also a creative professional.

Two days ago, for the first time since the first iPhone, I got to spend a little quality time with an iPhone (4S, white). I was tasked with sync'ing an extremely tech un-savvy friend's device.

I found iOS very cartoonish looking! I was so disappointed! It was also extremely cumbersome... It just frustrated me. Sync'ing to iCloud and back again didn't work... my friend only 4.5GB of data, so she was within the free 5GB that Apple provides.

I've been using Android since 2.3 and now I'm running ICS 4.0.4 on a Samsung Galaxy SIII. I am by no means an Android 'fan boy', because there are many frustrations with ICS... but boy, I don't regret not going for iPhone 4S, or any of them for that matter.

Google are onto great things with Jelly Bean, they've made huge steps to a more unified UI, and of course it's personal preference... I don't want to start a flame war!

I like the consistency of the whole Eco-system, that the things play (mostly) perfect together. Design is good, too.

Dislike ? Not much, maybe a filesystem to share data more easy.

I dislike the keyboard and the fact that you can't install third party apps to get better text prediction. I also dislike the screen size, it's too small. Both of these are deal breakers for me, otherwise I'd happily switch from android. I like everything else about the iPhone.

The user friendly UI. The browser, camera, and MP3 player are the best I've had so far. Yes there are some high end devices out there that do SOME things better than a 4S, but overall, there is no phone IMO, that does all of the things an i4 does and does them as well.

Why do people still repeat that? That's no longer true since ios 5.

You can't put non-iTune song/video into the default Music Player without iTunes. I buy songs from Amazon MP3 all the time & the only way to get them on my iPhone is via iTunes.

Likes: ease of use, anyone can pick it up and use if
Solid feeling high quality phone
Polished apps

Dislikes: iOS is really starting to feel old to me
Barely any customization
Stock apps suck
No widgets
Easier way to turn on settings ie Siri turn on my damn Bluetooth!

The Apple iPhone 4S remains one of the most popular smartphones on the market, thanks to its many excellent features as well as its iconic design.

I am continually amazed by its build quality, and it really feels like a premium device. It is a world away from the plastic-y construction of many other smartphones.

It is the full package in terms of features. Its native multimedia ecosystem, which consists of iPod, iTunes and AppStore puts it way ahead of the competition in this respect. The AppStore provides a massive part of the appeal of the device, thanks to its ability to massively increase the versatility of the device by downloading apps of which there are hundreds of thousands to choose from within a number of categories.

But the real reason I like this phone so much is that it just works. With no restarts, no battery pulls, no reboots, no hesitation, no lags.

Couldn't agree more.

Well I find it hard to believe that people who use their smartphones as mp3 players would not have to use a media manager to sync their phones to a computer, I believe this is the case with android phones as well, as most libraries are larger than most phone's capacities' as of now-even more so that part of the space is taken up by apps.

Anyway there are alternatives for regular ipods like mediamonkey (?) which work with iphones I think, so a choice exists. IMO since unless you use a streaming service like spotify one has to use another programme anyway speaking for myself iTunes fits the bill very well, YMMV. Otherwise you can use ios these days without syncing to a computer.

It may be true for a smartphone, but iOS is also on iPads. My mother's only device is an iPad - I do feel like not being able to do basic stuff just like saving a PDF/Word Doc from an email is ridiculous.

Again, I know apps do exist that can save documents to. But, this should be in the basic OS. I do not want to hunt through multiple apps to figure out where I saved a certain Word doc/PDF/ or whatever.
