Why do you love your iPad?

I love it primarily because it has been a great tool for going paperless in the office, and it's hugely helpful for dealing with my large research library.

Other than that, it's a great portable tool - to me it's superior to a laptop on work related trips lasting one or two days, due to the combination of long battery life/ stylus input and 3G connectivity.
 
Because I can have a big screen wherever I choose to have one without lugging around a laptop.

.......basically all the reasons Apple said. They didn't jive us with their reasons as to why they thought we would enjoy it.
 
I agree with most on here. I just purchased an iPad for our family and I love it for the reason that you don't have to boot it up just to check email or browse the internet.
 
I use it for browsing, games, music, photos etc. I talk a lot on iMessage.

I don't have a laptop. I don't see the point in having a laptop and a tablet, unless its one of those transformable ones like the padfone.
 
Honestly I'm bored of all people trying to justify their iPad purchase or wondering what they should do with it. Same with people I know that ask what I do with the iPad. The iPad is not a work tool. Sure you can maybe do some work with it, but that's not the point. If you need to do something really serious buy a laptop. I see the iPad as a media consumer, so browse the web, read a magazine, ebook, comic, play some game, watch some photo, play a video, check emails. That's it. And it's not too little considering you can do it an all comfort everywhere, from bed to toilet :) It's also more than what 90% of computer owners do with their mostly Facebook, porn machines :)

iPad relegated my Macbook to be a pure Photoshop, document writing, video editing workhorse.

I have a Xoom as well so I had a bit of buyers remorse buying my iPad, but I actually love using the iPad, for books, news, games, twitter, etc. My xoom was basically reading website due to lack of useful apps.
 
I previously owned a 13in MBP for two years until it was dropped and began malfunctioning. I then purchased a 21.5" iMac which is great but only if you're willing to walk all the way to the back of the house every time you want to do something or look something up (first world problems). Forget portable browsing/tasks. After that, I was considering getting another laptop. First choice was another MBP. Super powerful, can get the job done and I know it's reliable. But the price tag was too high. So then I started looking at the MBA. Tiny, convenient, low price... sure. Then I saw the battery life and immediately changed my mind in a negative way. 4-5 hours? Really?

I had never even considered owning an iPad before because I was one of those people who said it was just a blown up iPhone and that it's only good for leisure activities. I was so wrong. I really started researching it and found it had 10 hours of battery life, you can do essentially everything the average person needs to do on it, and the apps for iPads are 10x better than they are for iPhones (which I own). In researching the iPad and it's capabilities, I discovered so many applications for it in every day life that I previously hadn't began to conceive. The more I read about the iPad or talk to people who have them, I learn about new and different things they use their iPads for and it just amazes me. I have never appreciated how far technology has come until I discovered the iPad.

It's portable, it's beautiful, it's powerful, and it can handle anything I need it to do. It's my personal assistant, it's my movie theater, it's my game room, it's my classroom, it's my office, it's my recording studio, it's everything.

Sounds like a Macbook Air is more your thing. What did you decide to get OP or have you bought one yet?
 
I love it because I can basically not bother using the computer.. Means going on all the sites I love by sitting in the lounge :D perfect for twitter postings.

Seriously though, there are too many reasons to count, but I think the big one is portability/usability. I can do most things I use a computer for, all on the iPad resting comfortably on my lap or in my hand.

Sounds like a laptop should definitely be your primary purchase; if you have some extra $$ later on, get an iPad as a secondary device.

I forgot to say, I like my iPad cause I can read emails/macrumors in the bathroom.......:D
 
I love my iPad mini for its size; it's small, discreet and personal. I had always viewed iPads as giant iPods up until 2 weeks ago, but I've learned that they're so much more. Since then I've been using my iPad mini constantly for hours and hours on end. I honestly can't put it down. I play games, watch videos, listen to music, surf the web, etc. My 16" Dell laptop is under my bed collecting dust.

iPads are a luxury, not a need. Everyone's needs are different. I have a MBP for work, MBA for travel & an iPad Mini for everything else in between. I don't need all of these but I sure do like having the convenience & options. Everything is synced. My iPad Mini is an ancillary device and could never be my primary device. I love it. But I do not need it.

If I could only afford or keep 1 device, it would be my MBA.

Not necessarily true.

I would argue that everyone needs a computer with a larger screen, athough you can get by with a smartphone. If you accept that as true than having an ipad is as much a need as a cheap computer if it does everything you need.
 
Size
Versatility

Mostly is why i love my iPad. I like not having to haul my laptop everywhere for light computing and internet browsing.

I need another one since my daughter has completely claimed mine as hers

This is good advice. You might make it work if you have an AirPlay printer and keyboard. No matter what people say the iPad works best in addition to a computer.

We're just going to agree to disagree here. The OP is a college student. There is no way an iPad could be a primary device for any college student.

As for people who don't work on computers, of course they don't. But For those people, any smartphone would suffice + if makes those all important phone calls. An iPad is still not a "need" here. But to each their own opinion.

I discovered this summer that I could get by with about 95% of what I do with just an iPad only. I sold my MacBook Air which is crazy, I know, but for public speaking and what not, the iPad is much better than the air to use as a reference guide for outlines and what not when presenting. I really haven't looked back.

For the 5% of the time where the computing power of a desktop or laptop or normal computer is needed, I go straight to my wife's laptop to use for a little while. My time on there is literally less than a half a day of work a month.

To get by with better typing instead of on a glass screen all day, I have purchased the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover which has worked out really well. Again, I know that this set up is NOT for everyone. It works for me and it has saved us some money as a family in the long run.
