Wow... I just thought of another big one...

Sometimes, I'll quote someone in a forum, in order to respond to something specific that they said. I don't need all of their quote though... just part of it.

As it is now, I have to manually delete the part that I don't need.

With copy/paste, I could much more efficiently delete the superfluous text.

hey off topic but use the multiquote button if you are going to posts consecutively

Case in point - my work building has a wifi network. I sometimes need to log on to it on my iPhone to check things.

It's one of those annoying things in that it's not password protected, but any time you use it it will divert your first HTML lookup to a log in page built in HTML. Hence it cannot remember the password.

My username for this network is a nine digit random alphanumeric code. My password is a different nine digit random alphanumberic code.

At the moment I have this saved in notes, and every time I want to log on to the network I have to get a post it note, copy down the user name and password on to it from the notes app, go into Safari and copy it from the post it note.

Don't you dare tell me copy and paste isn't needed when I have to do this sort of thing every. Single. Day.

If apple prides themselves on thinking different, don't you think they could pride themselves on multi-tasking...you know...several new ideas....maybe along with certain useful items that are commonplace.

just a thought.

Hmm... Let's see - we all have iPhones and we post on message boards... Many times, I've typed a post, only to realize that my thoughts were disorganized and needed to be reshuffled in a more logical order. Can't do that without copy and paste...

I also very much want to see office apps on my iPhone and can't see that being practical without copy and paste. Can you imagine how pointless that would be?

Like others, I don't understand why anyone would poo-poo the idea of added functionality, even if they don't /won't use it. I, for example, will NEVER use MMS. If apple ever adds it, I won't be sad. From my point of view, more is better

Copy/paste would be nice for creating new text messages of a joke someone sent me 'cause there's no FORWARDING feature on this phone!

It's really obnoxious to start a thread like this and then criticize people's answers, you asked why? They gave you an answer...We're not in kindergarden or at least I hope your not...

I probably wont use copy and paste very often but it would be nice to have when i do want to use it so why not?

Also, some of you people shouldnt be afraid to jailbreak your phones. You could get many of the things you want just by doing that (video record, video send, MMS, notification, and much more)

Without copy/paste, I can't do this.

I spend a lot of time reading and posting in forums. In one particular forum, I am a moderator, and as such, I post a lot of links, in order to help people find what they're looking for.

I can't do that without copy & paste, unless I either write down and remember a long url, and then I still have to be sure to type it without errors.

Life would be a lot simpler with copy & paste on my iPhone.

This is the exact same reason I would like Copy/paste, I'm also a Moderator of another forum and I'd love to be able to copy info and/or warnings so that I didn't need to re-type everything each time.

I'd also use it to copy links to my photo's and add them to emails rather than sending the pic.

OH yes. I have found many times when i would need it.

Copy websites to IM to friends, MySpace bulletins, etc.

I have voted in favor of copy/paste. Thats a feature that I have been missing quite a lot recently

Can you describe a situation where you need to copy/paste? I dont get it. I will never use it. All the basica situation is already provided. Say I want to share a URL link, the button is ALREADY in safari. All the phone numbers email addresses are already clickable, so nope not there either. What exactly do you need it for??

yalag, I totally agree with you. Sure, copy and paste may be useful at times, but with the way people whine around here you would think that it's an absolutely vital function.

If copy and paste is that important for someone, I say knock yourself out and get another phone!

and i dont get how people have an issue with others wanting to add more functionality to a phone:rolleyes:

It's a basic smart phone function.

Any blackberry user (like my former self) will tell you, Copy/Paste is a daily (hourly?) function on a good smartphone.

I'll just post what I posted the last time someone asked this question that has been asked multiple times before:

I really could have used it this week when I received a FedEx tracking number that was not hotlinked. That has happened several times before too. Also when someone sent me a hexidecimal WEP code that I needed for a secure router to get my iphone on wifi. Would have been REALLY handy then!

There are a number of other ways it could be used.

I wonder if the OP realized that you wouldn't have even been able to post that without copy/paste. Oh, the irony. :D

Yup. I don't need it every day, but it is HIGHLY annoying when I DO need it for it to not be there. Recent (within the past month) situations when I needed it:

1. Copying the AppleCare number from my email to the AppleCare website

2. Sending three URLs in an email to a colleague

3. Copying my provider's 20 digit alpha-numeric NIGHTMARE of a password to their online account mgmt system

4. Saving a phone number and email address in an email to a new address book entry

5. Transfering the notes entered for one iCal event to another

So that's at least five seperate occasions in less than a month where I really needed copy/paste but instead had to wait until I got home and could use my iMac. Solely because Apple is apparently as unimaginitive as the OP. ;)
