I just picked up a Blue S6, and I was pretty stoked about VO2 Max tracking on my Peloton...Only to discover the VO2 Max tracking is unchanged in the way it’s been done for several years despite Apple touting VO2 Max tracking in the keynote and adding a blood oxygen sensor? The way I now understand it, Apple added no capabilities in this department over the S3.

Why’d they tout the ability to do VO2 Max when I still have to do an outdoor workout (hard pass)? Does the oxygen sensor not allow the watch to calculate VO2 Max whether you’re moving or not? If it doesn’t, I don’t understand the point. Additionally, if it’s not measuring VO2 Max somewhat often, what’s the point of the Cardio Fitness warnings? This makes no sense and it’d be great if someone could explain.

They are two distinct concepts that hardly correlate to one another. One is the oxygen saturation in blood, while the other is the rate of oxygen intake by your body during exercise.
